This looks like Roadstar RS1500. The ad says "ROADMASTER II Series". ?????

Hello Juha,

this is definitively a Roadstar II RS 1500. Like mine: http://www.backyardmusic.de/main.php?cat=3&artid=4 87. I just replaced the bridge pickup with a Joe Barden.

Thanks, Olli

I found specs on the net and some info on ICW. How is it compared to stratos? It is obviously one of many strato copies? How much to pay for a refretted piece which doesn't look as shiny as yours?

Hi Juha,

as far as I remeber I payed for mine about 300,-Euro. But that was almost 5 years ago. The prices for 80ies Ibanez guitars have obviously increased since than. Hard to tell what's reasonable for this one now. I think you can not qualify it as a Strat copy. Shape and feel are likewise. But there are many differences. Most important: The RS 1500 is a neck through construction - sustain and tone is different than on a Strat. And also the pickups have more output than the Fenders on an average standard Stratocaster. It is a guitar of it's own. Very nice though.

This has been refinished, sanded and vaxed for more comfortable touch, said the seller. It is a pity. I liked the looks of the original lacquer finish that I saw in pictures and I think it would have been good enough player for me with the original finish. New refinish would be difficult and maybe expensive.

Neck through vs. bolt on neck - sure they are different. I was too excited about finding a quite rare model to think it completely.

These guitars are NOISY!!!!! I replaced all pickups in mine with Dimarzios. Tone Zone in bridge, cruiser in the middle and pro track in the neck. AMAZING. I use this guitar for my country/southern rock feel stuff, then switch to the neck pickup for some George Benson sounds.
The tonal capabilities on this guitar are underrated. The controls feature a master volume, neck pickup volume, a tone pot, and a three way. The neck pickup volume allows for blending of the middle pickup, this mod was common on ALOT of tele players. (Brent Mason, Scotty Anderson) From quacking tele sounds to sweet glassy strat tones.
The neck thru construction contributes greatly to the guitars ability to get those fat sounds out of the neck. Really a great feeling instrument.
I do find it hard to get used to after playing the 2618 and my MC200 the majority of the time though.

"The controls feature a master volume, neck pickup volume, a tone pot, and a three way."

Don't you mean a middle volume? The factory set up is master volume, middle pickup volume, and master tone. The 3-way switch controls only the neck and bridge pickups. We just had this discussion not too long ago. The RS230 and RS240 have the same setup.

Now I regret I didn't buy this. Here is the story.
I won the auction, my bid was 220€, reserve was 250€, BIN 300€. The seller sent me an email and told that somebody had offered 260€ after the auction ended and offered it to me for the same price because I won the auction. I thought it was a stupid try to raise the price. Everybody can see the reserve after the auction has ended and nobody offeres more. I wass so off that I never replied. Probably I would have got it for 250€ (or less?) which I think is not too much for high end Roadstar even if it is not collectible (refinish) but could be a nice player.
