Hi Ekkerman! Parallel wired h-bucker is quite like a singlecoil, but still humbucking, while phase reversal with 2 humbuckers is a totally different thing tonally. If 2 pickups are both on, and the other is equipped with phase reverse switching, the sound that you will get is quite "hollow", nasalish and some frequencies are cancelled. Hope you'll get the point.. btw. Brass Beauties are quite nice.. |

thanx fox but i thought coil split was more like making a humbucker sound like a single coil...now i am confused! is the paralel switching like making 1 humbucker sound like a p90 witch is in fact a single coil only slightly more fatter sounding? doesnt brian may use a lot of phase reversal wich cancels out the lows in your sound? have you ever heared the difference and ifso what do you prefer? and is of more use on stage? |

Here some basic info. You will find more by doing web search with "humbucker wiring". http://www.guitarelectronics.com/category/wiringre sources.1basicwiringfaqs/#q17 http://www.1728.com/guitar.htm It is necessary to know basic electronics to understand how and why humbucker and other pickups work. What sounds best or is most usefull is a matter of taste. You need many eguitars, amps and effects to achieve all possible sound variations. Humbuckers with coil split etc are versatile but can't do everything. Juha |

Ekkerman, the main reason, why I have preferred Series-parallel switching is, that when a h-bucker is in "parallel mode", coils connected in parallel, you'll get quite convincing singlecoil-sound, but the pickup stays humbucker, while in split mode it will be a singlecoil. On some occasions you'll get all the possible noise also.. The disadvantage is, that you loose some power when you connect the coils in parallel mode, some players like this, some find it a little annoying. It helps a lot if the humbucker is "in the hi-power side", the output drop is not at all dramatic. But it, as almost ev'rything in the world of guitars, is a matter of personal preferences, likes and dislikes... |
