Neck on USRG series?

Thanks.   Art Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    As far as I can tell Greg, The USRG series had the Wizard neck shape. If you own one however, you can tell that alot more workmanship went into creating those necks than the Japanese (and now Korean) made production models. In the mid-nineties, Ibanez switched to the PBC "tension free" neck design on it's USA Custom Series. PBC is/was a company that made replacement necks that boasted a "dual truss rod" system that relieves most of the string tension from the neck. This helps keep the neck from bowing when changing string gauges or doing adjustments. The shape of the PBC neck is a little more rounded in the back than the Wizard but the fretboard radius is pretty much the same. That's probably alot more info than you wanted but I thought I'd share it anyway!   Kevin Wale Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    Somewhere either in the mid to late 80,s or early 90,s the usrg,s had the option of several different necks including the wizard and the viper which is now the jpm neck. There was a couple of others too. I,m not sure but I think that the wizard is shaped quite a bit differently now so it might be kinda difficult to tell.   Jimi D Posted on Thursday, February 01, 2001 - 12:07 pm:    USRGs (NOT USA Customs or RG3120 Prestige, but USRG models) ALL HAD PBC TENSION FREE NECKS. This included the three USRG models, the USRG10, USRG20 and USRG30. The only neck option was whether it was bound or not, and that was determined by the model you purchased. With the exception of the hardware, all the guitars in this line were completely made in the U.S.A. There were three models—USRG10 with a fixed bridge ($1299.95 USD list), USRG20 with a Lo Pro Edge tremolo ($1449.95 USD list), and the USRG30 with a Lo Pro Edge tremolo ($1699.95 list). All three also came with a premium Ibanez hardshell case (UM150C) that listed for $129.95 USD. All three of the models featured black direct-mounted DiMarzio humbucking pickups (Tone Zone at the bridge and PAF PRO at the neck), 5-way pickup selector, black plastic Jem-style volume and tone knobs, Cosmo black hardware, All Access Neck Joint, bolt-on 1-piece maple PBC tension-free neck (built for Ibanez by PBC guitar in Coopersburg, PA) in the wizard shape, Dunlop 6105 fretwire, Offset pearl dot inlay, 24 frets, Gotoh tuners, and solid western alder bodies with thick figured maple tops. The USRG10 and USRG20 both featured four color choices and AA figured maple tops (flamed or curly), rosewood fretboards, and black pegboards for their two years of manufacture while the flagship of the line (the USRG30) had nine color choices in all, AAA figured maple tops (flamed or curly), matching figured maple pegboards, and bound rosewood fretboards. The PBC necks feature a 3/8"cold-rolled steel bar that runs the length of the neck. It relieves all tension on the wood of the neck, dramatically increases stability and sustain, and puts an end to dead spots. I prefer quilted maple over flamed maple, though.
