I’ve just joined ibanezcollectors and would like to share my guitar with you. http://freescobox.justmyhost.com/images/rs1500.jpg I bought my RS1500 and a Peavey Classic (4x10, 50w with 6L6’s if I recall) in a pawn shop in Old Montreal back in ’85. I was sold on the neck-thru construction and great tone. The old man in the store wanted me to buy a Gibson L6-S, but I found the fret board too narrow. Back then, a lot of my guitar buddies played Gibsons and Yamahas and initially mocked my choice in instruments. After a year, a number of them had bought Ibanez guitars. I wouldn’t part with with this old guitar, but never gave much thought to its rarity until I took it into a music store last year and the guys flipped out when they saw it. She has a few chips, but polishes up well. Value? Tentoes |

Tentoes, Lucky for you, we have a resident expert on Roadstars. "Mr_Roadstar" as he goes by here on board, knows just about everything there is to know about Roadstars. He posted the build numbers for the 1500s a while back at 365 total units. So they are pretty rare, and as a result, don't pop up often enough to get a good feel for what they'll bring in an open market such as eBay. Its been my experience that the Roadstars in general do not get the respect that they deserve. Certain models like the RS1000, have sold for upwards around 1000 usd. The Lukathers (RS1010) also do well in open auctions. I think as more "collectors" try out these little gems, the prices will eventually rise. But for now, the Roadstar is still (IMO) the best bargain in Vintage Ibanez guitars. That's good news if you're buying, buy not so good if you're selling... I am also a fellow RS1500 owner and I love the guitar. I paid $350 USD for it on eBay roughly a year ago and I consider that a bargain when I compare how great this guitar is against other higher priced models. We recently saw one pop up a few weeks back, but the fingerboard had been scalloped, so that severly affected the guitars value. If I were to guess, I would say that your guitar would get anywhere between 300 and 600 usd on eBay. That depends of course on how many people want it. A guitar's value is simply what it will sell for in the open market, and that is often determined by how many people "have to have it" at that time. Good luck with the guitar and welcome aboard! js |

Tentoes, What a coincidence ! I took pictures of my RS1500 last night and will soon post my introduction in a separate thread. I also bought my RS1500 in Old Montreal, I got it new in the mid-80's. It still looks very good, unfortunately with a few nicks. Is that a PT9 Phaser in the picture ? I have one of those along with other Ibanez effects. Do you know of one/a few pawn shops in the Montreal region ? I might be in the market for some accessories or who knows, perhaps an acoustic guitar... |

Nathaluc, I bought it at Jack's near Steve's on Rue St. Jacques. Jack's sold mostly guitars and amps. I bought the RS1500 in '85 and it was showing signs of heavy use. I had the frets filed soon after I bought it. Back then Steve's had a brand new RS1500 hanging on the wall and were asking $650. Considering the rarity of this guitar, that's probably the one you bought. I headed out west for Vancouver 15 years ago and sold my Peavey Classic just before the move. A nice amp, but not a practice amp. The stomp box on top of my little Fender is a CP-9 compressor. I bought that new from Jack's in '85. You shouldn't have a hard time finding a good used acoustic in Quebec. I've seen some beautiful guitars coming fron La Belle Province. TT |
