Author Message   Arney Username: Arney Registered: 10-2004 Posted on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 - 9:43 pm:    Gentlemen, Can anyone tell me the differences between the Iceman series of guitars, the IC200, the IC300, and the IC400? Were they all offered for sale at the same time, or was the IC200 offered first, then later the IC300, then last the IC400? Does anyone have all three; if so, are there any sound or tone differences between the models? Do all three models have the same pickups? I've never considered collecting these guitars before, but suddenly find myself becoming interested in them. Since Paul Stanley played Iceman guitars, are they good for anything other than the heavy metal Kiss sound? What did each sell for when Ibanez was selling them?   Flatbag Username: Flatbag Registered: 09-2004 Posted on Sunday, July 31, 2005 - 8:43 am:    Hi Arney, I'm no expert, but here's my take (assuming you're talking about the late 70's/early 80's): 1. Differences between models: IC200 - Solid Mahogany body, 2 x Super 80's IC210 - Solid Mahogany body, 1 x Triple coil IC300 - Ash (Korina finish) body, 2 x Super 80's IC400 - Mahogany w/ maple cap, 2 x Super 80's 2. As far as I know they were all offered at the same time. 3. I only have the IC400, so can't offer a comparison 4. I find the IC400 is very high output, not really suited to blues or jazz styles. It's actually quite hard to get pure clean tone out of it, the pickups are quite a high output. I still prefer the tone of these over V7/V8 pickups used in RGs, Super 80s definitely have more character. I can't find his website URL, but I think it's in the link section of ICW. Flatbag's right with the body style/wood & pickups for the late 70's models, but owning an IC200, I know that the neck is pretty slim compared to a similar period IC400 (I've seen and played one in a shop which was made a few months after my IC200). The 400 had a neck which was similar to that on the Artist range, ie a more LP style "chunky" neck, where the 200 has an almost "slim taper"/Wizard style neck. No idea on the neck dim's of the 210 & 300, I expect that the 210 will have the same neck as a 200, and the 300 has the same as the 400, but I'm guessing. I believe that the 200 - 400 models were offered at the same time, but came from the development of the 3 different 2663 models of around about '75 or so. Comparisons? I have a 200, and I've played a 400 acoustically in a shop. I would guess that the 400 has an Artist/Les Paul type vibe to it because of the mahogany body/maple cap, where the 200 has more of an SG/Firebird type vibe with it's mahogany body. Sound wise, there's nothing stopping anyone using this guitar for any type of music, and they're pretty versatile instruments. Most people use them for rock/metal though.
