Hello. I´m new here. My name´s Francisco and i´m spanish.

I´m trying to date my Ibanez Roadstar II. The serial number is: e830772 and was made in Japan. I think the guitar was built in early 80´s but i´m not sure.
It has two humbuckers and a beautiful cream color. The paint is worn-out and you can see the wood grain.

I´m sorry but i haven´t photos.

Best
francisco

May 1983.

Hmm... Two humbuckers and cream paint?

RS125 maybe. Need a photo or more detailed description for a positive ID.

Hello and HELP PLEASE! First I am trying to figure out how to post a pic along with my message and can't figure it out so any help would be appreciated. Second is I purchased a lefty Ibanez Roadstar II off e-bay and there's some discrepancy as to what year it is. It's features are Pearl white paint with matching headstock, HSS pickup config, Floyd Rose style locking trem, 1 vol/tone knob w/ coil split switch in between. 2 stickers on back of headstock. One says RG440 on it and the other is the serial number F702979 made in Japan. Any help you can give again would be greatly appreciated.

Wildlefty:

Uploading images is not difficult. You need to use an "image" tag line for each picture you want to include. Like this:

\image{guitarfront}
\image{guitarback}
\image{guitarheadstock}

The real trick is to make sure that your image files are 50k or less. If they aren't then you need to crop, resize, or resample and save them as compressed JPEG files. You need an image editing application for this. Here's a pretty impressive Windows app that gives you all the tools you need to crop, resize/resample and compress your digital images.

http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

There's a lot of power in this app to do MUCH more and best of all, it's FREE!

If you need further help uploading images with your messages, take a look at these links:

and this messages:
http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=17&post=15750#POST15 750

Hope this helps,

Wildlefty:

Sounds like it's a 1987 model. I don't know of any '87 catalogs available to confirm, but here's a link to the '86 catalog that shows the RG440. It didn't have the coil split switch, but the RG450 did. Maybe they changed the spec for '87.

Mr. Roadstar is the resident expert on these models. I'm sure he'll see your post and clear things up. In any case, pictures would be helpful.

What you have there is a 1986 model RG440L. Although the serial dates it as a 1987 build, all of the features are 1986. The '87 models used a different headstock and pickguard.

As for the extra switch, I suspect it was added by a previous owner. I currently have an '86 RG440 in Pearl Red.

Thank you very much for your help. I had looked at some mid eighties models that were like mine but all the ones I found had the serial number stamped into the neck plate so I wasn't sure about mine. The previous owner described it as a "strat killer" and I have to say that I agree. It has more of a rock tone to it than a strat but as far as craftsmanship and playability it beats any American strat I have ever played. I have been looking for a Ibanez Les Paul with a set neck from the "law suit era" because I have owned a couple of the bolt-on models and they blow away any Gibson but their very hard to locate in a lefty version, so if you run across anything let me know. Thanks again.

Wildlefty:

I'm sure I don't have to tell how difficult it is finding lefty guitars. But add on top of that you want one of the rarer models (setneck LP replica) and you may be in for a really, really long wait. I don't think I've ever seen one come up.

However, I have seen lefty setneck Grecos. You might want to consider widening the scope of your quest and grab this kissing cousin version of the Ibanez LP.

Johns:

Thank you I will. I have heard of Greco but know nothing of their history or origin. I like Ibanez simply due to the fact that other than Fender they are the best ally that a lefty has for offering some variety in what they make/made. I recently purchased their new SZ520QM and it turned out to be a fine guitar.

Wild:

Use the Search function in the menu on the left to look for messages with Greco in them. Here's why I say that you'd probably find a Greco lefty, setneck LP faster:

GrecoLeftyLPs

You can see two lefty Grecos LPS (and a lefty Ibanez PF200 behind them) I saw at the last Philly guitar show.

I got an SZ520QM myself this past summer.

LesPaul:

Thanks for the pictures. Now I can say I've definitely seen one. A beautiful cherryburst, too! It's a nice touch to paint the back of the headstock and fade the red at both ends of the neck.

Mr. Bear seems to be giving the nod to the setneck. How about you? What do you think about the setneck vs. bolt on. (have I asked you this before?)

John,

I know Harry or Hasy has a 2386L just like mine. So there are at least two.

This setneck guitar is a 2386L. Constructionwise it is very similar to a 2405. I know your opinion about those and I concur.

I also have a 2650. Now that is different. A very, very good guitar, as Harry described his at his site.

When I , recently, got the 2650; I worked out all the differences between 2350/2386/2650 in pics to post here but I have trouble putting a lot of information in a logical way in the limited space of one post.
Any suggestions?

Paul

Hmmnn... dating a Roadstar. They probably have big egos, so go one step at a time. Move slowly. Get to know the Roadstar before making a true emotional commitment to it.

I am trying to date a Japan Roadstar II serial number F852588. Is it a June '85 or does the F8 mean Fugijen 1988?
