Hi guys, I may decide soon to sell a lovely mint Ibanez guitar of mine, i'm not sure yet. It is a mint Ghostrider GR520 VS apart from one aspect: it has been signed by someone locally famous. Does anyone know the safest way to remove permanent marker pen from a guitar body, or is it not worth taking the risk? I'll only attempt it if someone has previously done it. I'm sure i'd get a nice price for it even with the signature, but probably a whole heap more if it was not there.... Any tips gratefully received! Sibbers |

The finish is pretty tough. Try Meguiars Deep Crystal paint cleaner, followed by Deep Crystal polish (available at most automotive stores). |

No, I'm in the US. I suppose any automotive paint cleaner and polish system would work. The polish has mild abrasives in it, and will remove a very thin layer of finish from the surface, so any permanent marker should come off. You'll probably want to do this to the whole guitar body once you see how shiny and new it makes the paint look. There are also rubbing compounds, which have more abrasives in them. They will remove most surface scratches. If you go this rout, you'll have to finish with swirl remover, then polish to restore the shine. |

I'd recommend you to get Isopropylen (Isopropylalkohol, 90%) from a pharmacy. I used that successfully on black and silver permanent markers (Edding). This is probably the easiest and cheapest option. Juergen |
