Hi. I got 2 Ibanez Roadstar II . A RG120 Black ('85) and a recently purchased RG140 Red ('86). I realized that there's a notable difference between them. The Red one, RG140, is more thick, both body and neck shape. And I really can feel this in the playing. The black one, RG120, is thinner, very more comfortable. Exactly the same models of body and necks, both made in Japan, same bridges, parts, except the pickups configuration. But with this measures differences. I'm looking to buy another Roadstar II in e-bay, but I'm in doubt. I want a guitar with the same measures of my black one, RG120. Do you know if Ibanez made changes in the Roadstar production line ?? '85 to ' 86 ?? Or maybe I got the bad luck in my thicker RG120 ?? Thanks. Paulo. |

I can't answer this from the information given. I'll need photos and serial numbers. If no photos are available, I'll need the following: Maple or Rosewood fretboard? How many frets? Pickguard or no? Pickguard color Pickup configuration (HH, HSS, SSS, H) Control layout Body color? Does the headstock match the body color? Where is the output jack located? What you have described contradicts the changes made from 1985 to 1986. Also, '85 models have an "RS" prefix. '86 model numbers start with "RG". Ibanez produced over 50 different Roadstar models from 1983 to 1988. Accurate identification requires detailed examination. Steve |

I noticed that my RG140 and RG200, both from '86, have a differing neck profile. RG200 has a thicker V that I don't like that much, therefore I'm selling the RG200 and keeping the RG140. If I remember correctly, the RG200 neck shape is not a secret, it's even mentioned in the catalogue. |

Yes, the RG200 neck differed from the 100 series models (Page 5 in the '86 catalog). What's that got to do with different body shapes? Steve |

I'm surprised about the body difference myself, just wanted to bring out that there surely are a lot of differencies that are not obvious when just looking at the pics. |
