I'm trying to locate pickups for my RS1500 that currently has some Duncans installed in. I have a BL550 that could part the pickups (2x SuperTap6, 1x Super6?), and a NOS Super 6 (or a SuperPower 6?). When not tapped, would the SuperTap 6 be closer to SuperPower 6 or Super 6? The plan is to put the RS1500 as close to original as possible, since I will have to sell it after all. |

Let's try and continue this one. I have two SuperTap6's in a Blazer-Strat, and they are incredible pickups. I always have them in split mode. I tried Kinmans in the same guitar, and I was blown away by the cold, shrill, dull, dead, tired sound! The SuperTap6's are just amazing. Feels like the strong magnet pull would be a good factor... don't know though. So, naturally I want SuperTap6's in all of my guitars. A bit hard to find them though. So what would be the closest match from aftermarket pickups that would sound even a bit like the SuperTap6's? DiMarzio Red Velvet, SDS-1, FS-1? |

Probably a Duncan Quarter Pounder if you can get the tapped version. Even so, a Super 6 or Super Power 6 (I think they're essentially the same thing) would be wound to about 5.75k give or take. The Duncans are tapped at about 6.3K, I think. The Duncan tapped would be a bit louder and more mid-rangey than a Super 6. For even more fun, try wiring 2 Super 6's in series. Wonderful, ballsy fat tone without being too muddy. They are truly a versatile design. Haven't tried and Super Tap 6's yet. I'd like to find a couple...worth the price of a beat up, pieces-parts Blazer, for sure. |

Corrcting myself...Duncan QPs are 6.9k to 7.0k tapped, 13.3k to 14.0k full coil. Much beefier than a Super 6. |

I remember laying an ohmeter to the SuperTap6 pickups in my BL500. Seems to me they were in the 12-15k range. They're the only single-coil pickup I've ever really liked. Excluding P-90's... The Bear |
