I've got a 1985 Destroyer II, Ser#C850156 - indicates number 156 for that year. What might be the value of this guitar? Its got a black finish with white outline on the body, pearl inlay on the neck& gold trim. I've got the case to boot. Just curious. |

This is a little late but here goes. The only Destroyers that I am aware of that came in black were the DT-155 and DT-555. These were heavily marketed as the "Def Leppard" or "Phil Collen" models although not officially labeled as such. The 155 has a bolt-on neck with dot position markers and a Fender style, non-locking whammy. The 555 is much more up market with a set(glued in) neck which has block MOP/abolone neck inlay and a double locking Pro Rock'R whammy with fine tuners. Both models came with 3 pick ups and cream binding on the body. I have a 1984 price list which has the DT-155 at $495.00. So I would expect the DT-555 to have had a price of around $695. This is just a guess on the DT-555 price so if anyone else has more input I would be happy to see it since...I myself have a DT-555! There is currently a 155 on E-bay. Keep an eye on the auction to see what they go for these days. Hope this helps. CIAO! |

I have seen the Collen Destroyers go from $400 to $800. I have a close to mint one, that Phil played and signed, and that was around $1000. So I guess it depends on who you can get to buy it. I have seen a few sell on ebay that I personally thought were a little high. Brooks |

Hello fellow musicians, I saw your post in Ibanez Collectors Forum.I have an Ibanez Destroyer II.It's a cherry sunburst with ivoroid binding, gold hardware and a three piece maple neck.I had the stock pickups in it until I got tired of the stock bridge pickup and changed it to a Seymour Duncan Distortion(that sucked) and then to Dimarzio Tone Zone pickup(That's a killer pickup.)Mine is a 1981 and I have seen Ace Frehley play one just like mine in an old KISS video. It has Dunlop straplocks installed and the original hardshell case.I have seen Destroyers going for around $500.00.I have a buddy of mine who has a lawsuit era Ibanez Destroyer(from the late '70s).He brought it to play onstage at a nightclub in Northern California around 1989.It's made of Korina wood and is highly more desirable,if you can find them.I have also seen a Flying V version made by Ibanez with the same type of wood.Ok,people,I hope that you find my input informative and amusing.Later!!!! Thanks, George |
