First time poster, long time fan of Ibanez. I bought my first guitar in 1975, a Concord model acoustic, bought a 1979 AS100 in 1985 (still have both). Just bought a fun little AG85 2 months ago. Despite my purchases and affinity for Ibanez though, I know very little about model numbers and hence my question. I want to be able to set up an automated search on ebay but I need to include a model number to refine the output. I'm looking for a used electric, cosmetically challenged but straight neck/good player, and I'm assuming it's going to be at least 4 or 5 years old or older. In short, I want to pick up a 'beater' that I can take to gigs as a backup, and not be overly concerned about finish care and such. My preference would be a slimmer-bodied sabre descendent, 3 pickups (S-S-H is best), but without the Floyd-type tremolo. Either fixed bridge or a strat-like tremolo is cool. It looks like a new SA260 would be perfect but new is too nice for what I want, especially this one. The price is right on the SA160 but the price leads me to believe it will feel like an entry-level guitar. Not that there's anything wrong with entry level, especially for my purpose but it's got to feel right and play right and without a road-test I would not be that confident buying one off ebay. So, any thoughts on what models I should search for, anything in the last 5, 10, 15 years ? Appreciate you reading my long-winded post, and of course any insight you can provide. |

Licksville, I'd recommend you get one out of Roadstar II models or early RG models. They are super! |

I own (or have owned) pretty much all the non-floyd S variants. I'd recommend an SC "S Classic": http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1997/97011.jpg Slightly deeper sabre body. 25.1" scale ala PRS. Full rich articulate tone and great wide shallow V profile neck. The SC1620 is my #1 guitar. The SC420 is easy to find or around $300. Versatile 5 way switching. MIJ. Or an SF or SV: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1993/s_2.jpg Thin and light. Traditional C shaped neck. Full classic rock tone that is a little softer - not as articulate as the SC. MIJ. The Korean SAs are not bad. They have an 1 5/8" nut, which takes some getting used to coming from 1 11/16". They are solid guitars with a little bit of a strat vibe. The Japanese SA1260 is nice if you can find one for a good price. For search terms: (SV,SF,SF470,SV470,470S,SC,classic,Sc420,SC620,sc1620) in the ibanez electric category. |

Thanks for the info guys. It looks like the SV470/SF470 is what I am after, although I will keep an eye out for the Roadstar II model. I have seen a couple S-Classics recently on ebay and from what I recall, they went very cheap. I considered that model but I really prefer a 3-pickup config. Very useful info, thanks again. |
