I really like the percussiveness of these as compared to my V1 and V2. I would like to find a couple of the humbuckers for my SC620. |

It has a V7 neck and V8 bridge. I have a Duncan Custom 5 in my SC1620 and I thought it was a huge improvement. |

It's the first time I ear some one prefering V7/V8 instead of V1/V2 I have a RT and a SC On my RT (150), I have now a pair of GFS Fat Paf ans a DM Virtual Vintage in the middle ! I Really like this configuration for anything going from funk to hard rock. On my SC I have a pair of Super 58, and I couldn't be happier with any other pickup ! On a SC 620, I would recommend an Air Zone or Tone Zone in the Bridge (or maybe a Norton too) and a Breed for the Neck (or Maybe an Air Norton) ! If you think it will sound too modern, you can try a SH5/SH2 configuration, it should be really nice too. In fact this guitar is so nice, that I think any pickup would sound well in it, as far as the bridge pickup is not too trebly.. Enjoy ! |

Thanks guys, Although right after I posted, I remembered Ibanez rules and found out right away. I think that the V1 neck is too muddy/bassy. I honestly have been playing my Sc620 and Sc1620 for so long, I recently got out my RT650 just to knock the dust off, and I forgot how good it sounded. Really warm, and not over the top with output, unless I want it to. Also, the output in positions 2 and 4 are my favorite clean sounds on the SC, but the output is way too low. I need to find a way to get that clean, glassy sound, without routing for a single, haha. Just kidding. I wonder if Ibanez will make me an SC like Jon Finn's his had a single coil and a tremolo. |

It always amazes me how people hear things differently. I wasn't a big fan of the V8/V7 combo either. In my RT450 they sounded really harsh. The first thing I did was yanked the V8. Even with a PAF Pro, the guitar was still too thin/edgy for me. The V2 in my SC1620 sounded a little too bright to me - harsher than the V2 in the AR100. With the SH14 Custom 5, I've found a perfect pairing. It has a new mid range that it didn't have before. Reminiscent of the sound Jimmy Herring gets from a PRS. It can be very smooth, and can growl too. No matter what PU you use, the guitar is clear and articulate - not that classic mahogany tone that the AR has. But it has a mid-range and bass fullness that the other S series guitars lack. Close to perfection when you factor in the lightness, comfort and dreamy neck. I have no complaints about the V1 neck PU. It is great for shimmering clean work (It does get muddy with distortion). If I want more brightness, I'll use single coils. But the V1 is about perfect for a humbucking tone. |

When comparing the V7 and the V1 with my TriAxis, same gain patch, the notes are much more clear from the RT rather than the SC620 or 1620. With the V1 the gain causes the notes to be overwhelmed by bassiness. Part of this will be the differences in the guitar, but why not try? I can buy a V7 and a V8 for 20.00 bucks! If I don't like it, I may try the ole J Custom set up, A tone zone maybe an evo? Who knows. |

It's hard to compare the tone of the RT and SC ! They are completely different ! RT (alder body) as a very trebly sound (harsh and thin as Funkle said) so you have to use a bassy PAF with it to sound good (my opinion). SC (mahogany body) is warmer than the RT So if the problem for you is that the V1 is too bassy, I think the V7 may not sound better in there (as the V7 gives a good result for you in alder, it must be really bassy !) But it's not hard to try ;o) |

As an owner of an RT240 (basically the same as the 450 in the USA), I thought: "Let's see if anyone's offering an RT at the moment. And yes, an RT650 for sale! Ebay Item #250103150751 I think F313832 means Fuji Gen Gakki 1993 (not 1992) All pickups replaced by DiMarzio Evolution and Chopper. MOP pickguard looks all original and not replaced, but the knobs look replaced. They were originally white on the 650. http://www.geocities.com/xcvxcv65/ibanez/blueibane z-92rt.htm They are really nice. I love that TZ6 tremolo (on the 650 and the 240 and probably the USA 450). I think the Dimarzio pickups are a real upgrade (expensive pickups normally OEM in the JEM models). Looks like you're not the only one looking for the perfect pickup for this ax, Cmangeot. This guy must have spent several hundreds on these Evolutions and the Chopper. Ginger |

Correction, I wrote that the RT240 was basically the same as the RT450, but... The RT450 has a HUMBUCKER in the neck position. The RT240 has a SINGLE COIL in the neck position. The wood etc. seem the same: Ebay Item #200100443597 Ginger |
