Greetings All,
I am debating the purchase of a used pgm 30 I think thats correct model. the finnish is in good shapea bit yellowed the trs 2 trem has lost chrome and seems to easily moved due to heavy sweating and palying of former owner all hardware is faded from this.Back plate for trem cavity is missing and all i got for 570.00 is that and hard case
it is japan made accoring to serial #F0046111but the excessive wear on the hardware and blemish on neck ( which can be wet sanded and sealed I hope fairly easy )and previous owner added hot pickups next to bridge not sure what kind as I am novice player .I will probablly only get 1 electric guitar in my life so in your alls opinion what should I do ?This guitar does play well to me my other gripe is pick up switch is too close its easliy shifted during play.
Should I?

A: Refinnish and repair this unit (I am told discontiued models such as this are worth 2x orignal price?

B:bUY A NEW JS100 OR 1000 PERHAPS

c:look at other brands
I am trying to stay under a grand 1000.00 budget if possible the 700.00 dollar range
Your input will be greatly appricated
you

It is my experience that anything with a low TRS is kinda crappy (even signature models). Some people like 'em but my feeling is if you have only one electric you should get a RG 550 and put kick pick ups (like evo's, or a JB and a jazz with a vintage rails, or bartolinis or EMG's, or Tom Anderson's, you get the point) in it. The 550 comes with an edge (best locking trem ever) and a great 24 fret neck with the classic shredder body style. Also, you wont feel guilty refinishing it to your favorite color. 550's are still reasonably priced (most of the time) but good ones with an all maple neck, fretboard and all, are starting to get harder to find. Now, this is just my opinion, but I own 3 jems, a universe, a prestige, a roadstar, and a 550. The roadstar is the only one without an edge, so I kinda feel I know what I'm talking about (yes I have a couple of floyds to). Everything on a 550 is great except the pickups, witch can be changed very easily (and they really aren't that bad). Also, you can get lots of after market parts to customize them to your liking. Plus, anything 500 series or higher are typically great. There, that will probably get a few people upset, but again, it is only my opinion.

The 1570 would be great. Basically the same thing as a 570 from back in the day, which is basically a 550 with a rosewood fretboard and no pickgaurd. Same crappy pickups (that really aren't that bad, I'm just a guitar snob) that can be changed easily. Enjoy it with the stock pickups while you research what would fit your style. I forgot to mention last post, I would stay away from the JS 100. After folks got wise to the crappy TRS they introduced the "edge II". It performs great like the edge, but like the low TRS it is made out of weak metal so it gets real floppy real fast (knife edges wear out). The JS models Satch really plays are great!
This one is just to give people with limited resources a chance to own something like it. A stock 1570 is a much better guitar. I can't believe nobody is ranting about my opinions.

I'd agree with just about everything Smurfdog said. I own 2 570's and a 520QS and a JEM VWH. The 1570 I think is pretty much a 570 with newer parts (and no p/u surrounds). So you might save a few bucks and pick up a 570 on eBay.

How is that for a rant?

Yep, I took for granted that most of us are ebay fanatics. Look on ebay for a 500 series or higher. Oh, and find a good luthier, a good one is worth his weight in gold. Treat that person well and never haggle over the price of their labor. As for inciting a rant, Load your new (or new to you) ibanez with anything but Dimarzio pickups That ought to start some trouble, ha ha ha (just kidding).
