I'm kinda new at this but I was wondering if I can switchout the crappy tremolo system from my 85 Roadstar 2 series with a floyd Rose.Or if I have to breakout the router and modify the body to fit a Floyd Rose? Also will any Ibanez licensd Floyd do or does it have to meet certian requirements? Thanks in advance.. |

Redcell24: It would help to know exactly what model Roadstar 2 you have. If you don't know, take a look at the RS models in this '85 catalog: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1985/index.htm Regardless, I doubt that you will be able to fit a Floyd Rose without some type of routing and work replacing the anchor studs. |

If you really want a Floyd Rose, how about an '86 RG440. It's basically the same guitar as your RS440 but has an Edge trem instead of the Pro Rock'r. Steve |

I would love that, but I amnew to this Frankien Guitar stuff and really wanted to try to piece something together. I honestly don't even use the tremelo thst much, but the one I have is missins the High e saddle lock and have yet to find a replacement part or even a place that carries old parts for crappy hardware. |

Steve: Good suggestion. (Or how about a PL1880?) Here's another shot of an '86 RG440PR with the Edge trem.

Redcell24: I wonder if your opinion of the ProRocker trem being "crap" isn't colored by the fact that it is missing a part and you can't get it fixed readily? The ProRocker was an evolutionary step forward and I have found it to be quite reliable. Of course, the one on my '84 RS1300 is whole and operating as intended. I will stipulate that the ProRocker can't reach the extreme of a Floyd Rose. I've used trems that would not keep the guitar in tune after minor usage. If that's happening to you, I can see why you are frustrated. To answer your earlier questions about parts availability. Officially, Hoshino/Ibanez do not stock or sell older parts. Finding 20 year old trem parts is difficult. Ebay and this forum have helped make it easier to find the parts or people who are most likely to have spares to sell. The best suggestion is to place a message in the Free Classifieds section and then troll ebay...like the rest of us. |

Thanks for the help. I have actually never heard the guitar befor, I picked it up at a garage sale for $4.00 there are some things that I need to do to it to get it playable befor I can even see if it is worth fixing up. The Tremolo is one of them. Plus the fact that it is a 1 way tremolo(down) is probably lending to my pre-judgement. Thanks again for the advice. |

Redcell: It doesn't sound like the trem is setup correctly. The trem should move forward and backward. If the back of the trem is pinned against the top of the guitar, the spring tension is too tight and should be loosened until the base of the trem is parrallel to the top of the guitar. |

Redcell24: I'm new to the forum too. Wondering if you ever replaced the ProRockR and, if so, would you be willing to sell your proRockR? I've got the same 1985 RS440 and could use it. |

I don't know what you mean by high saddle lock. Right now there's a locking nut on eBay. Ebay Item #130090446514 And a more or less complete ProRock'r tremolo Ebay Item #130090451567 But I have "serious doubts" about the "original arm", to put it nicely. Ginger |
