I wonder how the wood is under that clear. I have a White one (also an '82) with the exact same issue. Basically the factory did not properly glue the rear laminate cap correctly leaving a void, the wood of the body and the thin cap expand/contract differently, leaving a crack. I never thought that Ibanez would put a veneer cap on the back of a guitar that is being painted, but they did. I think that the painted ones are the guitars that failed inspection for the grain on the top and were then painted either White or Red..........
