Holy crap, you NEVER see these EVER. This is Creekhed's holy grail! Looks to be in great shape too. The fact that no one has posted this one yet HAS to mean the snipers are hiding in the brush, this is going to be an intersting finish. I have been looking for one of these myself for oh, about 20 years. Unfortunately the time is not right for me currently so I am just going to watch.
I cannot even hazard a guess at what this might go for. It may even be undervalued because it is so rare to see these sold so people don't even have a ballpark idea of the proper price range.

According to cappy's build numbers these were made for only 2 years (81 and 82) and the TOTAL build number of the MC350NT over that 2 year period was a whopping 84! We are talking an AR5000 type rarity here (but nowhere near as celebrated).
Also, while technically this post may belong in "cool contemporary electrics" I cannot bring myself to put it there. If ever there was a vintage Ibanez, this is one of them. |

I believe only the MC400 and 500/550 had ebony f/boards, but the rosewood colour seemes to vary from pink to very dark brown, which raises the spectre of "ebonisation" and how it might have been achieved. |

$2550 for it? Am I missing something? Build numbers aside...My MC 500 nt got that much (2700)and that was with a flight case. Sellers doing back flips I'm sure!

i think we plugged the auction here on ibanezcollector (thanks jeff DOH) hehehe which brought more visibility from heavy collectors who might have missed this one based on the title as it was written (that is the downside to this site sometimes)everytime a nice axes pops it gets listed here as well so we can all bid against each other (Privately no less now) and it is rare i also have a blonde 78 mc500 a little less rare than this one??? but still calling in similar numbers at ebay sales.
I took a crack at this one as well but 2550.00 thats way to much for what it is, but there were like 2 other MC500's that went for that much more recently. The Jerry Heads love these things! i hope this one doesnt get frankensteined with an extra 3rd pickup UGH!
This new PRivate bidder thing sucks the second chance spam offers will still come regardless and we can not see if we are bidding against fellow ICW members. I wonder if one of us got it anyone!

see that is the problem, Every single one of those quotes above is WRONG.
The MC350 was made in 81 and 82 ONLY. The version we are talking about and what sold last night is not what those quotes are pertaining to.Guaranteed that wither a 200 or a 300 were mistaken for a 350 in those quotes.
Also,
I have been lurking on this board for over 5 years and watching Ibanez musicians on Ebay for over 10 (Ibanez musicians are what got me in to Ibanez and are my passion). This is the first time in all those years that I have EVER seen a 350NT for sale ANYWHERE |

Jeff, I agree that the quoted prices are most likely mis identified, but I know we have seen several of these over the years and NONE of them sold anywhere near this price.
There is some confusion regarding this guitar as the catalog (1982) shows the model with S88's in the DS & FR color and chrome humbuckers in the NAt color only.

It doesn't even have an ebony fretboard, so it's not a top model, like the 400, 500 and Limited Editions.
IMO it's just a nice guitar with low build numbers.
And like Dave_G says, a LOT of green.

You would absolutely know better than me! I do watch pretty close for these and I haven't seen them in any color, with 58's(aren't the chromes 58's, Dave? I am not sure) OR 88's. Just out of curiosity and answer if you want, or not, because it is a personal question, but do you own any '82 350's? I just want to be able to think that someone somewhere has another besides the one sold last night!
Also, what is also intersting about the catalog scan you posted is that right off the bat, besides the pickup difference, what is another difference between the NT and the other 2 that jumps right out at you? A Single toggle on the Red one!THE DS is too dark to tell. 2 Toggles on the NT! Also, why would an '82 catalog scan show the 1981 verions of the DS and FR but the 82 version of the NT?
Furthermore you state that several of these have come up through the years, and I totally bow to your knowedge on this stuff :-) and you have access to channels that I could only dream of, but in just doing a search of ICW, I could not find a single post of anyone saying they owned an '82 MC350! That is years and years of posts and not 1 picture of someones, or even one mention of one being offered on Ebay in all that time. Again, that is me just searching ICW and you have access to more offers and private sales than I do, but the scant amount of MC350 information on ICW is VERY telling to me.
When it comes to the 350NT I am intimately familiar with it as one of my favorite guitarists (Scott Murawski of Max Creek, well known in the Northeast at least among "jamband" fans, unknown pretty much everywhere else) has been playing one of these since the year it came out (he bought it in the fall of 82, when he purchased it brand new). He is sick, sick, guitar player and was a huge influence on me and countless other guitar players in the CT, MA, RI, and upstate NY areas. What's funny is the guitarist of Phish (Trey Anastasio) who became a huge,huge,touring band (biggest in that genre since the Grateful Dead), credits Scott as a primary influence and as a "master". So much of an influence that even Trey's first guitar when playing with Phish in the mid 80's was a PW Ibanez Musician!
This may partly explain the price of that one, because THAT IS Scott's guitar.
I would be interested to see what area the buyer is from.
That guy I mentioned in the first post of this thread (Creekhed - guess why he picked his screen name? :-) has been looking for one of these for years and has bought a ton of 150's and 550's from 81 and 82 to satisfy his jones while searching.
The other thing is that MC500's in the last year have jumped from 1000-1200 dollar range to the 2200-2700 dollar range. This is just following suit. The rarity makes it that much more desirable. Add in to that the Guitar hero or nostalgia factor (if applicable) and bingo...you have a crazy price! This price is no more insane than 2700 dollars for a 78 MC500 NT and down the road it may be that 2550 was a bargain consiering the scarcity (I shudder at that thought though!) |

Jeff, Interesting obsevations, I think that the differences between these guitars just points out the confusion that Ibanez had regarding the seperation of the musician line from the rest of their offerings. Remember in '77 they were playing with the Artist neck thru (2700 series) then the traditional Musician, then the Humbucker series (least we forget the Red and White MC150's) . I think that Ibanez kept trying to differentiate these series and eventually dropped it completely infavor of the rise of the "Super Strat" and the second birth of the company. The MC 350 is interesting (at least to me) for two reasons...Primarily because I was never a fan of the plastic covered 88's (I always found them to be kinda tinny and microphonic-a situation that is greatly helped with the use of a EQ equipted guitar) and the fact that this guitar is a "Transition" model (as evidenced by the various versions that were offered over the years...
..No I do not own one of these guitars...a couple of years to new for me (1980 is my cutoff for the most part on Ibanez).
Even with this said, I still cannot rationalize the high price that this guitar sold for.
Thats what makes an Auction fun I guess ! |

I thought this would go for much higher than many people thought, but I was thinking 1600 maybe to 1750 tops.
Oh, and I DID end up bidding on this so I kick myself for making the initial post. However, I don't believe my post woke everyone up, people were lurking on this before I posted. Interesting social experiment would be to see the difference in auctions that are posted to ICW versus not posted, and what the final bids end up being.
I am not naive enough to think that all the hardcores in this great group don't do their own ebay searching though. My post nonwithstanding this guitar was going for big money. Maybe I drew some more attention to it, but it still is what it is and those in the know, know.

I have 4 Ebay Sales of '82 MC350 NT in my records of the past 3 years. Two of them were listed on Ebay Germany during the past 6 weeks! One of them had a moved upper Strap-Button, came with a Gig Bag only and went for approx. $534. The other one came with the OHSC and went for approx. $1043. Both guitars were all original otherwise and were in exc+ condition. So the rare birds are out there, you just have to find them...

maybe its the same reasons why someone would pay over 10K or 50K for a guitar center version of claptons Blackie Strat complete with luthier installed cigarette burns, the original was cobbled together from 3 different strats but they all Sold, so i dont get some peoples logic but hey the MC350nt seller is probably drinking Dom rite now LOL. someone who owns one still isnt clapton, as its in his fingers not the Axe.

I think its a no brainer why the price of vintage guitars have been on the upswing.Sites like ICW and others seem to have a psycological effect on buying habbits.The more discussion about different models and how great they are- can put one in an excellerated buying mode.Im speaking from experience ive bought 3 Ibanez guitars since ive been on this site.: Arms stretched straight out- eyes wide open like saucers(walking like Frankinstine)I am preprogramed to buy any and all vintage Ibanez guitars:murahhhhhh |

This site is the best except for the fact that we drive the prices up. Otherwise we wouldn't have the wealth of info from members and their catalogs, etc.
You can say that again about the GAS....
I can't stop this madness. My GAS compulsions are.....the GREATEST thing that ever happened to me!!!!!!! I just bought an MC940DS, and now I find a 78 2618 local, for $500. I can't pass it up. |

Like the other day... as soon as I punched the BIN button on a 671/12 that I'd had my eye on... here comes an email from a very nice ICW member, offering a very good deal on a very nice 2681. I HAD to do it!
These are definitely the GAS PAIN situations that keep us all nuckin' futz!

Re. Yogi's input... That proves it...this 350 went from 150% to 500% more than those two...we are approaching Vintage Ibanez insanity here $$ wise! And it still had the cardboard style case.
But what is even more funny, if you have one and go try to sell it now, it probably won't get anywhere near that much, especially after the post here on the amount paid !
And yes, this site does cause vintage Ibanezitis...I too have invested a nice chunk of change due to this site over the past couple of years...it works for you when you sell and against you when your fishing. But deals are still out there if your VERY patient. Just getting harder by the hour.
As for the guy who won the 350nt drinking Dom...more likely a nice, full flavored bottle of Boonesfarm...cuz that sucker is broke now!! (Unless it is our friend in the Alps who has the most hi end gutair collection ever as well as having the most amazing taste in wines this side of the Napa Valley) |

I've bought an MC 350 NT on german e-bay about 2 months ago for very-very good price in excellent condition. I don't know how could I make, but nobody was so interested for the guitar. The initial photo was from the gigbag, maybe that was the point... |

I was only looking for a same one, after the bidding I've got this forum and totally surprised about the rarity....84 pieces in two years????? I had luck.... |

Holy cow! Yesterday it got new strings and plugged it into my fulltube vintage combo. Outstanding vintage sounds!!!!! It's funny, I have an Ibanez Artist AR300CS Super Edition (1987) which has the same pickups (TriSound '58) but the sound is not the 100% same. |
