Let me be frank. I hate the bars for the 'edge' trem. They suck. They flop around when the washers wear out, and there isn't enough Teflon tape in the world to make them right. Older Floyds are not immune from this malady, either. The nut that is supposed to hold the bar tightly into the washers loosens and is a pain in the ass to tighten properly (dangerous to the finish to tighten improperly). I suggest a retrofit Floyd Rose arm assembly from Allparts. It has a pop-in arm with a tension adjustment nut. This upgrade for the 'edge' requires a slight modification to the barrel portion (cutting in half to fit the plate) and a slight reaming of the plate itself, but it is rock-solid and tension adjustable. My vote for cheapest, best upgrade for the FR and its derivatives. |

Chris, Am I confused or are you looking for the claw arm springs? The Edge tremolo requires no springs on the outside, unless there is one on the inside that I'm not awaire of. Which there probably is, I don't know enough about the tremolo system... Challenger: Some of us like our tremolo bars to flop around. That's why I like an older Edge tremolo, I like to grab the bar, then when I'm done I want it to go away with no effort of my own. Edges are great for that. But if you want a stiffer one, try clear fingernail polish, not too much, but just a little to cover the washers. That will stiffen it up right away... |
