Need help with my custom shop RG!

Author Message   Kurt Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    Hey, Ive got a USA custom RG guitar, and it has what my salesman described as a "stress free" neck. That is, the neck is basiclly hollow and the head is attached to a bar which slides into the hole in the neck. Apparently you could pull the head right out of the neck although I wasnt able to without breaking something. Anyway, because of this unique design, the nut is all copper and completely encompases the outside of the neck (for instance, looking at the back you can see the back part of the nut. Its inbetween the neck and the head.) The problem is that it seems one of the grooves in the nut have worn down and now one string is buzzing when played open. I dont want to raise all the strings, and I would like to replace the whole nut device, but how? And where could I get a replacement? Does anybody have a guitar with a similar feature? I have done guitar repair for almost 20 years now, and I can tell you that the easiest way to fix your buzz is to "slightly" raise the saddle piece on the bridge. Also make sure that all the frets are set properly. I don't know why people get so worried about fret buzz. I have a hot-rodded '89 RG and the string set really low. So what if there is a slight fret buzz. When my Marshall is on 3 or more, I don't here it anyway! All I need to do is a pro-fret job. "Food for thought..."
