I've been looking all over the net for info on RX and EX series guitars. I have an RX 650 (made in Korea)and I would be interested to know a little about them, i.e materials, workmanship, and what people think of them. I imagine the RX series were "budget" guitars, but they seem to be of higher quality than current equivalents. I am also interested in EX series guitars as i've seen one in a 2nd hand shop and want to know if it's worth what they're asking. Thanks. |

I own an EX360. It's made really well. I haven't seen many others to know if the workmanship was consistent or not. I do have a lot of info on that series, though. Let me know the model number-or give me a description-and we'll go from there. |

Thanks for responding to my query Mrs Wolftone, sorry about the delay. The gutar in the 2nd hand shop doesn't have a model number as far as I can see. It has gold coloured hardware (bridge, machine heads etc)and a translucent flame finish. It was made in Korea. |

mrogers, my honest opinion is that the guitar in the shop is an ex3700, probably from 92-93. it's a very solid, and affordable guitar when it's new, if this particular piece is in good shape it's probably a steal. regarding ex/rx guitars, if you like the rx, you WILL love the ex. i own a 93 ex370, and after a few minor mods, it's one of my favorite guitars (and i have a great sentimental attachment to it, it was my first really cool instrument). i hope i've been some help. sincerely, mark g. |

mrogers, I once had an EX series guitar with gold hardware and a trans flame finish. It was stolen out of So. Cal.-could this be the one? Anyways, it was an awesome guitar. I believe it was an EX2700 deluxe, if I remember correctly. It had the Edge trem system(double-locking), two humbuckers and a single coil(the pickups sounded great until I damaged the neck pickup and had to have it replaced. This guitar sounded great and felt great, I was thouroughly impressed. I got it around '92 or '93, when they were discontinuing the series. If its not expensive, I would definitely pick that guitar up. |

I bought what the guy said were an Ibanez V7, V8 and S2 taken, he said from an Ibanez RX750 to put in my Yamaha Pacifica 112. I wanted to have the possibility of having a thicker jazz sound by having a neck humbucker (the Pac has an HSS configuration) plus coil tapping to give three single coils and in-between sounds. I was sorely disappointed by the dull, flat unresponsive tone of these pickups. The s/c was very thin - fair enough on what Ibanez say is supposed to be a vintage (ie low) output pickup. But the humbuckers were the worst shock - hard and, compared to the cheap ceramic in the Pac bridge, quite weak, with little harmonic depth. I'm wondering if perhaps these are not in fact V7, V8 and S2? In shops I've seen such pickups on Ibanez guitars printed on the pickup face with these model number, and black in colour. These pickups are white, with gold polepieces on the adjustable coil on the buckers and no model number anywhere. Anybody have any idea what I have here, what was fitted as standard to the RX750 with this description? I downloaded an RX750 wiring diagram from Ibanez's website and it certainly showed these pickups. Perhaps these came from quite some other guitar, but the s/c is certainly alnico. Was there perhaps an RX750 with a V7/V8/S2 option and one with an economy, -sound p/u option? I'm mystified because most writers seem to like the V7V8S2 series. I found them so bad I put back the cheap (but quite excellent) Yamaha originals. I'd really appreciate some light on this. Mark Gilbert |

Having looked at an old Ibanez catalogue, the chances are that the pickups you have are the correct ones. For the RX750 Ibanez used white pickup covers and gold magnets, featuring cross head screw pole pieces opposed to the normal hex pole pieces that are you would see on the same pickups in a different Ibanez guitar. Hope this helps. |

Thanks - I appreciate that. Just one queston - does your catalogue actually picture these white/gold pickups on the RX750 and say that guitar was fitted with V7, S2 and V8? Thanks again Mark Gilbert |

Mark, I never realised that you are in the UK. That makes two of us! The catalogue does show the RX750 and does confirm that these are the pickups that are fitted as standard. |

I have a RX-60 (purchased new in '93), that I absolutely love. I am, however, wanting to change the pick-guard to a alternate color. It currently has the maroon marble-print standard issue guard. I don't have an exact color in mind, I'm basically looking for options. Can anyone help me? |

I'm in the process of buying an EX series Ibanez electric guitar. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can tell me how much they were worth brand new? Just how good are they? |

I'm looking for some info on an Ibanez my nephew gave me for Easter ... It's a model EX1700, serial #C319571 and noted on the back of the headstock "Made in Korea" ... The body is a double cutaway with nice sharp points, dark lime-green in color ... kind of a green-burst ... The headstock is black with gold-plated tuners and EX Series is scripted on ... The neck isn't rosewood ... it's a natural finish with black dot markers on the different fret postions ... on the back of the neck is a thin brown stripe ... The electronics are a set of humbuckers and a single coil pickup between the two ... I don't see any markings on the pickups so I can't tell if they're DeMarzios or what ... and the same thing with the tremolo unit ... no markings ... but the whammy bar itself screws in ... if that helps ... All in all it's in extremely good condition ... My nephew works for a music store where the bulk of their business is albums and cds but occasionally people bring in their instruments to sell, and that's where he got in from ... Back in the "day" when I was actively playing it was pretty much Fender's and Gibson's so I'm not up on what's been happening in the guitar world for the past 15 to 20 years ... Any info on what this piece sold for and might now be worth would be most appreciated ... not that I'm in the market to sell it ... More importantly I'm curious about how old it is ... I just pulled out my old Tube-Works power amp tonight ... My fingers are damn sore but what a rush ... For a little while I was 20 again and all it mattered what making that guitar scream ... Thanks for listening ... Greg |

Greg: You have a 1993, EX1700 in Transparent Turquoise. The body is made of light American maple. The neck is 1 piece Maple with a maple fretboard with 22 jumbo frets and black dot markers. The width at the nut is 42mm, at the last fret it's 56mm. The neck is 19.5mm thick at the 1st fret and 21.5mm at the 12 fret. The radius is 400mm. The pickups are 2 Powersound Humbuckers and 1 Powersound Single Coil. The catalog doesn't go into any description about their characteristics. The tremolo bridge is called the Full Action II. Again, no description. The 1700 model was positioned smack in the middle of the EX series; the top of the low end. The entire line is characterized in the catalog this way: "our unswerving commitment for over two decades to offer guitars...with professional features and playability at an affordable price." It would be considered a good quality, entry level Ibanez. Maybe somebody else can help with the original price and current monetary value. |

Hi! I have a black Ibanez EX series guitar and was wondering if anyone could help me identify what model it is and what the value would be. The s/n on the back is 9200237 and other than that and the word "Ibanez" and "made in Korea" that's all I know... I've been told it was worth anywhere from $600-$800??? |

Niniel: I'm going to take a guess that it's a '92 model. In order to pinpoint the model you need to give us a full description: how many pickups and what kind, bridge, wood, neck inlays and material, pickguard or not? |

22 Frets, 5 pickups: 2-1-2. appeares to be a maple neck. Here's a (if it works..) I don't know if you can really tell from it, will take a closer picture. Thanks for the help! Felicia |

Niniel: I only have a '93 catalog. But your's looks very close to an EX170. It's supposed to have a body made of solid light American Maple. It has 2 Powersound humbuckers and 1 Powersound single coil pickup. The biggest difference in cosmetics is the '93 has a large white Ibanez logo where your purple EX logo is. The EX170 was the cheapest model in the EX series (the EX160 had a Rosewood fretboard), so I really doubt it was/is worth the $600-800 you were told. Sorry. |

For the mrogers guy who was looking for info on the RX650 guitar...they are constructed of a basswood body with a thin maple veneer on top and bound with aged plastic binding. 22 fret maple neck w/ rosewood fingerboard and Gotoh tuners. My books say they were made from 94 to 96, but I bought mine brand new when they first came out and that was in 96 and they were discontinued about 3 months later. It's a great guitar and I think they're much better than the equivalents of today. They listed for $570 when new, and I paid $419 + tax in 96'. I haven't seen any of them for sale except on an auction site from Argentina and the guy is asking $1050 US for it.....I think he's nuts, but let em' drive the prices up! axeshun |

Hi I'm new here and haven't had an Ibanez guitar yet.I've had just Kramers. I want to get something a little more mellow than a real "shred machine". I've been playing for about 40 years and still a "beginner". Anyway I'm looking at an RX 240. I can get it reletively cheap but dont know anything about this model. If anyone knows about this one please fill me in on specs. What trem., body & neck woods, pups, what its worth and so forth. I dont have the ser.# but I can describe it pretty well if need be. Thanks for any help. |

I've been researching these guys lately, so I'll take a stab: The RX240 was offered in '96 and '97 Body: Maple Neck: 1 PC. maple, w/22 fret rosewood fingerboard. Neck Type: RX Fret type: medium Bridge: TZ30 Neck PU: Powersound (S) Mid. PU: Powersound (S) Bridge PU: Powersound (H) List Price: $379.95 The RX was a lower priced guitar that still offered surprisingly good features for the price. I believe they were made in Korea. The necks are very playable - a litter thicker than the wizard style found on RGs. The TZ30 bridge performs well when set up properly (either to float, or locked down against the body). Tuding machines are on the cheap side. The Powersound pickups are not my favorite. All in all, a decent guitar despite being a "beginner" model. There might be room for improvement in the tuning machines and pickups. May I suggest that if you're looking for a more mellow take on the RG shred-machine, you look at the RT series? They are similar to the RX, but made in Japan in '93. They have alder bodies and Viper necks. Any model higher than the RT150 has locking tuners, TZII bridge, and V7,S1,V8 (DiMarzio) pickups. They are fairly common on eBay and usually a great deal. You can research the catalogs at: http://www.ibanezrules.com/ -Sven |

Hi! I've bought an Ibanez Guitar and I want to get information about it. It is an Ibanez EX270BK. A gold (not purple) "EX" is written on it. It has 22 frets. It says "Licenced under Floyd Rose Pats." and "TRS Trem" on the bridge. It is made in Korea. It's serial number is 3060195. |

W1ck3r: The serial indicates to manufacturing year 1993, but could be so early that it is found in the '92 catalogue. http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1992/ex_2.jpg http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1993/ex_3.jpg -Aki. |

Niniel1970 had posted a picture up there. My guitar looks like that. But I am sure that mine is an EX270. Because there is a sticker behind the neck. In the '92 catalog, it says EX270's fingerboard is maple. But mine is dark brown like EX160's. Can it be rosewood? And the EX logo is golden. Why is this? Also I'd like to know how good is my guitar? I've paid 350$ for it. |

Wicker: What country are you in (or what country did you buy the guitar from)? That may explain the differences in your EX and the ones shown in the US catalogs. |
