Does anybody know how much and 1982 Musician bass (with active electronics) is worth? It really is a nice neck thru instrument. I kind of hate to sell it.

I don't have a price for you infact, i have never heard of one.do you have a picture of it? I have a 78 Musician guitar,i'm waiting for someone to price mine too. If your bass has the same quality craftmanship as mine, you gat a real good bass!

Dave:

I don't have a realistic idea on pricing your bass. But I did come across something interesting:

Quote:

John Enwistle's Ibanez Musician Bass.
Serial Number: L840435. Year of Manufacture: N/A.
Background: None available.
Authentication: Put to sale by Entwistle himself.
Sold: Sotheby's 7:04:88. Pre-sale Estimate:
£ 1,200-1,500. Sale Price: £ 1,250.

I don't know what the exchange rate is, but would guess that it would come out to be around $2000. Also, if the serial number system is the same for basses as guitars, I'd say it was an '84.

You can take a look at the bass:

I see a Musician bass now and then in the $300 range. My impression is that they are not as nice as the guitars, but I've never seen a maxxed out one. I know of one now in a pawn shop for $200, but it is a bolt-on model, not neck-thru.

6 years ago, I bought a Ibanez base guitar. I now wonder what it is worth.

Little info on the instrument. It's got 3 button for sound adjustments, and the serial number starts with 89---.

Can anybody help? How do you know which model it is?

I also have an old neck thru Ibanez musiciam bass made in 1984 and I'd really like to know what it's worth. It's extremely narrow - very unique looking. It has really large passive pickups and plays and sounds great! Can anyone help me?

Unfortuneatly they are not worth so much in my experience.
I bought a very good MC 300 guitar no fret wear and no ding and all gold plating intact from late 78 bundled with a $200 aluminium flight case for 175$.
This is an excellent guitar but looks wise it is un-cool and this is the problem in selling. They play and sound great but the market is limited by the looks.
I know of 2 or 3 passive Musician bases sitting in dealers at 250$ and they do not move.

The active versions models seem to go faster but also not at high prices.

In the end this is model which if you can live with the looks you vcan pick up a very good guitar for very little money.
Do not expect to earn on resale. Unless you have John Entwistle to sell it for you

FYI Sting played 2 or 3 different Musician basses during his Police years.

I've seen one with ebony fingerboard, neck through (maple and walnut), 24 frets, fretless, serial number starting with L83, dark wood natural finish, 1 balance (for the pickups), 1 vol, 1 tone, 3 band EQ, pick ups Super PSS/JSS, that little switch for connecting them in parallel-humbucking, series and single coil, gold hardware. The bass is heavy like a truck. I couldn't try it but I remember a friend of mine that had one (12 years ago) and (at least in that time) it sounded good to me. Anyway, I know it is not a very sought-after model..... the guy is asking E650 that I think is way too much (despite of all the good specs). Here it is the page from an 83 catalog. The one I found looks exactly like the fretless on the pic.
