Author Message   Jonathan Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    I've been hunting this ghostrider series for years now, finaly i found one.These models are great they sound and feel like les pauls.I haven't seen any topic around here about this beautiful model..Is there anybody around here that actually owns one ?   Bruce Johnson Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    Hey, Jonathan. I just bought a Ghost Rider last week. I don't know if it's the one you're talking about. It's the higher end of the two GR's: abalone and pearl block inlay, bound carved maple top. It's beautiful; 1995 serial number and doesn't seem to have been played. Yes, it fells like a Les Paul but I think it can get "jangly" like a Strat a lot easier than a LP with the right set up. I paid top dollar for it, though: $450 with the original case. I play it through a Fender Princeton Chorus: smooth as a Power Bar bowel movement, but can scream like a hamster in the garbage disposal.   Jonathan Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    bruce aren't these models greats they sound so smooooooth and can sound harsh the same time .the one i have is like the ones you reffered to as the higher end.they made 2 kinds of these right?. the ones with the soapbar pick ups with the solid finishes and the ones with the regular pickups, sunburst finishes and gold hardware,mine's an orange sunburst, im looking for the ones with the soapbar pick ups too i just cant seem to find them anywhere.i've searched all the guitar stores here in jersey and newyork,most of the salesmen replied"i've never seen any of these models before". i guess the model name really fits its really like a ghost no ones really seen one.i read your other post .i think your right why the ghostider models aren't talked about that much in here.i read in the catalog(96' catalog i believe) that there where only a few models made.im not sure how many.they discontinued this model i dont know why.that's why im holding on to it tightly. i really think that this will be a collectible someday.i really dont care about them being a collectible or not though.   Chad Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    Ghostrider info...... There were 3 Ghostrider models produced as follows: 1. GR320 -- This model came with dot inlays and dual humbuckers. It had a tele style bridge and the bridge humbucker was mounted in this housing. It is the one that Al Jourgensen was pictured with in an old Ibanez ad. It was available in black and cherry with black hardware. They were introduced in 94 and produced for a very short time. 2. GR520 -- This was also a dual humbucker model. It is the one that has the abalone/MOP inlays and gold hardware. It was available in orange sunburst and vintage sunburst. Produced from 94-96 or so. 3. GR220 -- This is the soapbar pickup model. It had dot inlays and was available in black and transparent blue and came with chrome hardware. Produced during 95,96. I have seen several of these things for sale in the last year. Probably 15+ online and a couple at guitar shows (I go to about 2 guitar shows a year). These guitars are usually priced from $200 to $500. Although UGBM has one of the GR220s for sale right now and they are asking $899. That is WAY out of line. With a little effort, the GR520 and GR220 seem to be relatively easy to find. The one that is a REALLY tough find is the GR320. Good luck! By the way, weren't all of the Ghostriders made in Korea? If so, that means they were produced as a budget guitar by Ibanez. Also, very seldom does a Korean guitar become much of a collectible. Ibanez probably quit producing them because sales were poor in comparison to other models. My serial number starts with an "S." wHAT'S THE DIFFERNCE BETWeen orange and vintage sunburst? I guess I would say that mine's orange. Where have you seen these online, Chad? I, like Jonathan, would like to stockpile these. I have the GR520 Ghostrider, Orange Sunburst. It is the best guitar I have ever played. Very versatile and beautiful. Can anyone suggest a hardshell case for it? I put an Dimarzio Air Norton in the neck and a Dimarzio Tone Zone in the bridge. Guitar Ladies, step up!)! Just wanted to let you folks know that I have a green 220 myself; these things are FANTASTIC! Not only do my guitar-playing freinds dig it, non-guitar friends that stop by always say "The green one looks pretty!" My good friend and bandleader liked mine so much, he's bought FOUR!!! So far, he's gotten the black 220 and a cherry 320. The 320 was advertised as an Alan Holdsworth Model; something that neither of us knew about. It has a fake diamond inlay in the headstock; we are both wondering if this was done by the previous owner. Yesterday we compared all three (through his HR Deluxe), the 220's sound nearly identical but the black one weighs less. My green 220 must be around 8 pounds; it hurts by back after a 3 hour practice. But the cherry 320 was noticeably lighter, and the tone... oh, the tone. Finally, some stock humbuckers that have clarity when played without distortion. Anyway, feel free to email me regarding these guitars (two more on the way, and the ones that he doesn't want I'll be buying), or ANY Ibanez pedal. I found the p90's to be a little noisy though, I replaced the bridge with a Dimarzio DLX Plus. I also have a S540BMAV that I purchased new in 93. Does anyone else have this model of 540 or seen one? Perhaps also humidity plays some role in that..or that particular guitar has been built from not-so-well dryed woods.. Just my 2 cents....
