Help! my RG270DX allways goes out of ...

Author Message   The Dude Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    I'm in a band and every time I pick up my Ibanez it allways goes out of tune, like when I press down on the whammy and then let go its in a different tune, Is it becuase of cheap Floating Original Floyd Rose Bridge, please help me on how to stiffin it, like should I add more springs on the back or just bolt it down, HELP!!!   Mark Allen Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    I have a '74 strat, and it ALWAYS went out of tune when i used the whammy bar. Day Jr. Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    Dear Dude, I play an RG 570 with a Original "EDGE" tremolo, and it never lets me down. I'm sorry your axe does not have the same trem., but not to worry, I have rebuilt several trems in my day, including the one on your guitar. If I'm correct, it's a LO TRS system, which ain't bad if you know what your doing. My first step would be to go buy a set of Ernie Ball Slinkly's (10's) or Super Slinky's (which I use, 9's). Make sure you have three good springs for the 9's, and probably four for the 10's. Put on the new strings (3 to 6 raps on the pegs) and play for awhile to stretch them out real good. Then, lock them down with the locking nut. Your LO TRS should be around 1/8 inch higher than the face of the guitar. (Depending on the fret buzz situiation!) Remember that the bridge should be fairly level, and not sunk into the axe, or sticking up a mile in the rear! Your will probaly have to adjust it in the back of the guitar with the screws that hold the spring to the body. "To the Right" will lower the back of the bridge, "To the Left" will raise it. This is a very fast crash course on the finer art of Tremolo Tuning.... Good Luck.
