Hey ! I finally have my first Artist. I missed out on a nice '79 2619AR300 on ebay-my final bid of US $1031 was beaten by the winning bid of US $1251. Anyhow, my guitar cost US $575. It has some dings front and back but it's SWEET! My question is: can anyone recommend strings (gauge and brand) and sites where I can read more about the ar100? I know of Harmony and the Ibanez Artist sites. I could find very little even in the ICW posts. I'm already yearning for a 2617, 2618,2619 '78 or'79. Oddly, my wife doesn't feel the same so I'll have to wait. thanks Ib |

hey, it's all depends on the style you want to play. I normally just put on 0.11 roundwounds on regular electrics, usually D'addarios and I'm satisfied with the sound coming from them.. |

Ibnose: I use 0.09 or 0.10. D'addarios, GHS, Fender. What kind of info are you looking for on the AR100? |

Hi all I guess I wanted more user feedback like Harmony. I'd also like to see some of the catalogues from the '70s and '80s. As well, for example I was trying to find out what kind of fretboard was used. I like to hear about other's experiences with similar guitars. By the way and off topic have you all noticed how the logo on the Artist headstock looks just like the dragon in the Chinese NY's parade? as always thanks for a terrific site. Ib |

Ibnose: There is a lot of that info on this board. It's just scattered within conversations that have been going on since 1999 or so. Have you used the Search function, under the Utilities menu on the left? I plugged in AR100 and came up with 183 message hits. Catalogs are available on-line. Here are my favorite sources: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/index.htm http://www.noahjames.com/vintagepage/index.html http://www.ibanez-vintage-page.de/ http://musik-meinl.t3-kundenserver.de/index.php?pa ram=a%3A2%3A%7Bs%3A17%3A%22selectedprojectid%22%3B i%3A6%3Bi%3A6%3Ba%3A2%3A%7Bs%3A11%3A%22menuentryid %22%3Bs%3A4%3A%221049%22%3Bs%3A11%3A%22activenodes %22%3Ba%3A4%3A%7Bi%3A0%3Bi%3A0%3Bi%3A1%3Bs%3A4%3A% 221049%22%3Bi%3A2%3Bs%3A4%3A%221048%22%3Bi%3A3%3Bs %3A3%3A%22470%22%3B%7D%7D%7D |

Ibnose: You're welcomed. Can we get to see some pictures of your AR100NT? The natural finish is fairly rare. |

Hi Johns I will post pics of the guitar. It has a fair amount of wear on the back and some dings on the front, but for me the price was right-I had a budget to work from and the cosmetics were secondary to owning and playing one of these beauties. I also was told of an ar 100 NT Deluxe (?) with 3 switches for changing the pup sound. Also an '81 flame maple natural finish, great shape-Cdn $1200. Too much for me. But I am saving my pennies for my next purchase which will be either a 2617,8 or 9. cheers, Ib |
