AS MUCH AS I LOVE MY RG-560 iTS GOING TO BE REWORKED IN THE NEW YEAR. mY BROTHER IS GOING TO MAKE ME A BODY FROM AN OLD MAHOGANY CABINET, THE SSH PICKUP LAYOUT IS GOING IN FAVOUR OF 2 HUMBUCKERS. i'M KEEPING THE FLOYD THOUGH. i LOVE THE RG'S BUT BASSWOOD SEEMS JUST LIKE AN EXCUSE TO KEEP THE PRODUCTION COSTS DOWN. MINES MADE OF 4 PEICES. |

Seb: I've always wondered about the Basswood guitars. But nobody has really been complaining (including Steve Vai), so I figured it must be OK. I had some mahogany panels from a very old upright piano that I was going to use for a guitar body. On closer inpsection, I found that only the smallest pieces were solid mahogany. The biggest were veneers. Bummed me out. |

Guys, Basswood is a good material for guitar bodies. It does provide good tone, but it's cheap so it's got a bad rep. Why is it cheap? It's plentiful and it's not very pretty. You ever see a basswood body that's not solid finished? Seb, if you look close at most production solid-body guitars, they're made from multiple pieces. Large chunks of hardwood are expensive so it's cost effective to laminate smaller pieces together. FYI; Your RG560 is gonna look like an RG520, and sound like an "S" with the planned rework. Good luck! Cheers Steve |

RG-550 I blocked up the trem routs, front & rear with mahog., made my own bridge from stainless steel for tele brass compensated saddles and put Lace Holy Grail set in custom made p.g. WHOA! I was initially worried about basswwods tonality but this baby blows my Fralin pup strat away. www.projectguitar.com shows the trem blocking |
