Anyone know what model humbuckers were used in the IMG 2010 MIDI guitars? Looks like the bridge pickup may be dead in mine, and I'd just as soon keep it original, if possible.
Thanx
Neil

Neil,I have checked my spares catalog for 1985 and there is no listing of the humbucking pickups used in IMG 2010. I also checked the 1985 catalog for a reference point but it only lists them as humbucking pickup x 2 ! Sorry I cant be of more help, but what ever you put in it should not effect the collectibilty that much.

the pickups in the IMG 2010 are the same as the ones in the prolines of the same era... black covered sealed crappy pickups.... not much good at all... I would take Cameron's recommendation and put whatever in it...

Neil,

From Spiro's description, it sounds like they're IBZ pickups. Check the back of the case. You should see "IBZ" molded in. I've got some spares if you want to keep it original.

Spiro,

I respect your opinion, but I think the term "crappy" is a bit harsh. The IBZ was a joint Ibanez/Dimarzio venture that uses a triple magnet setup. The plastic case is filled with epoxy and sealed to reduce feedback. I find them to have a quite usable tone for hard rock. They don't sound like a PAF or a Super D, but that doesn't mean they're bad, just different!

Cheers
Steve

Thanx everyone. I haven't gotten around to testing the pickup yet. I'll be playing it out tomorrow with the one pickup, using my J-Station for more tonal variety. The neck pickup has decent tone, from hearty overdriven to clean jazz with the tone rolled off. For what I'm doing I would imagine the same pickup at the bridge would be fine. But I'm wondering, the pickups seem to be slightly smaller than a standard HB. They are a 3 screw mounting: 2 on one side and a single on the other.
