I just bought a Ibanez RG550, but it seems to be an older model. Here's the info:

Rosewood fretboard, maple neck, black body and top of the headstock (the headstock just says Ibanez), Edge bridge, H/S/H (no marking on the neck and mid pickups, the bridge pu is a V8, propably fitted afterwards). On the back of the neck it says RG550, made in Japan, serial number F903565.

What I'd like to know is what pickups are the neck and mid pickups (brand, model) and is this a 1989 RG550?

LaXu,

The serial number does indicate a 1989 build date. Need a bit more info for positive ID. Does it have a pickguard?

Not much info in the catalogs of the 89-90 era. My brothers 1989 RG570 came with pickups marked; IBZV1 / IBZS1 / IBZV2. I think you're correct in assuming the V8 is not original.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that it does have a black pickguard. Actually, it looks pretty much like the current RG550BK, except for the rosewood fretboard, black EDGE-tremolo, unmarked pickups and so on.

LaXu,

It is an RG550. Only the black ones had rosewood fretboards.
