Hey guys, Just added another to my modest collection. Found it on eBay. At least one pick up and the bridge has been changed. Would like any info from the '82 catalog on what this was like originally. Thanks much! Jeff

Very nice! I have a flame top 82 Rocket Roll with a gold aftermarket Kahler. The original pickups are the V2 for the bridge and the Super 58 for the neck. The 58 sounds awesome and the V2 is similar to a Dimarzio Distortion. The orginal bridge was the Les Paul style; although Ibanez's version was a little more squared on the corners as opposed to the more rounded Les Paul style. |

Thanks for the info! Thats a Gibson USA bridge on mine. I've heard the term 'flame top' alot, but must confess I'm not sure exactly what that means. Can you elaborate and do you have a pic of yours? Jeff |

Flame top generally refers to a maple top that you can see the little ridges in with a finish that's pretty close to a sunburst. Red along the edges, fading into yellow towards the center. I have to dig up some photos of mine. Not sure where exactly I archived them. For a similar one check this out: http://216.250.245.172/rr.html Look at the image at the top of the page. Imagine that one with a Kahler; that's what mine looks like. The bigger shot in the middle of the page was the last version they made with a slight body change. |

I've always thought that the term "flame" referred more to the description of the grain pattern than the color of the finish. Therefore a natural finish could also have "flame". Many PRS guitars have outstanding flame. Here's a sample of various flames: http://www.prsguitars.com/showcase/current/sp_sant2.htm http://www.prsguitars.com/showcase/current/sp_hb2.htm This is more of a "quilt" top. The grain is wavy, like an ocean. http://www.prsguitars.com/showcase/current/sp_ar3.htm |

Johns, you are correct. I think I was trying to say what you are saying but messed it all up. Thanks for the clarification! |
