I have what I believe to be a 1982 Destroyer II (ser# 82497). Does anyone know what the body and neck wood are? For those interested, it has a thin sunburst flame top (1/8" or 3/32"), cream binding, gold hardware, rosewood fingerboard, abolone/pearl hatched block inlays and plays sweet. I currently have a second hand set of Pearly Gates pickups installed with push-pull pots for coil splitting, but the neck is way too dark and the bridge is too creamy - these will come out soon. Also, I have seen Flying V style guitars from the same era with the same top that I would like pair up with my Destroyer for a matching set. Anyone know what the Vs are called? |

Should've mentioned.. the Destroyer II in my original post has a set neck and I am seeking a similar V. It looks as though the Rocket Rolls are maple bolt-ons? I don't think we're talking about the same instrument. Thanks for the heads up though and nice pic |

Rock and Rolls were made with bolt on and set necks. The flame top ones have set necks. I have a 1982 RocketRoll and 1983 Destroyer, both flame top set necks, both with V2 and Super 58 pickups. The V's aren't easy to come by. Destroyers are on ebay every week. You'll find the RocketRolls less frequently. I got mine for abour $425 from an ebay seller. |

I meant RocketRoll II for the name of the Vs. The earlier RocketRolls were replicas of Gibson Vs and did have set necks. The RocketRoll II had the Ibanez style headstock. And in 1984 I think the body style was changed slightly with little "nubs" carved into the outer edges and more of a radius where the wings meet under the bridge. I think most Rocket Roll II bolt ons were red while the set necks were flametops. |
