I'm trying to find out some more about the IBZ/USA pups I took off my '88 540SLTD to replace them with a DiMarzio PAF Pro on the neck and a FRED on the bridge, Satriani style. It's my understanding they were actually made by DiMarzio too, and since I found them stashed away I'm considering using them to replace the sucky HBs on my humble little Yamaha 120SD. Your opinion on whether this would be a good switch would certainly come in handy. Wonder why there's so little info on them? DiMarzio seems to have disowned them, and Ibanez is not much help on this subject, contrary to y'all. Thanks in advance, and a bunch to John Shanley, our collective guardian angel. Tone. |

Wow! Thanks a bunch, Spiro, you certainly gave me more than I expected! Still, there's a pesky little caveat... my IBZ/USA's have NO visible model designation next to their stencilled brand name! I suspect they are a F1/F2 comboed with a C3 of '87-'88 vintage; what year is the catalog you so kindly share here? Most gratefully, Tone |

Hey Tone... Here is the response I got when I contacted DiMarzio about the IBZ/USA pickups and the Fender H1 and H3 pickups on my Fender HM Strat (Japan). This SHOULD help you out even more than the catalog page hopefully. Later, Jeff in Houston DiMarzio Response: "The Fender H1 is a Super 3 (DP152F). The IBZ C2 is an HS-2 (DP116). The other pickups do not have the same performance as any of our standard pickups, and we have never run the the normal data specs for them. The H3 is somewhat similar to an Evolution neck model (the Evo is a little quieter and brighter). The F1 and F2 were designed to be bridge pickups (although Ibanez used the F1 in the neck position on a few models). The F1 is somewhat like the Breed bridge model power-wise but a little darker-sounding. The F2 is a little louder, with more mids and bass." PS - I recently e-mailed them again about the F1 and F2 and if I get a response I will post that as well. |

Does anybody know if the IBZ/USA C1 can be wired for single-coil position only? |

Yes it can.. but how is the answer! You need to rewire the whole guitar to reflect the fact that you have tapped the c1 pickup.. give me the colour codes of the pickup and I will go from there and figure it out for ya! |

Wires are red (ground, i think), green and 2 black wires taped together. Anyway it's installed in my '95 SV470 (PAF Pro neck, Tone Zone bridge). I'll play around with it in humbucker mode first before trying out the single-coil mode. |
