I've owned a yellow (eek!) 540 for a couple years...love it except for the color. I'm guessing it's early 90s (s# F018045). I've noticed that the wizard neck shape has changed on the more recent guitars...it's gotten a bit fatter. I asked the rep at a guitar show and he confirmed this. Anybody know what year this change was made?

hey greg!!
i'm not too sure about this one but maybe it's done in:
1. 1995- when Ibanez sensibly equipped the S models with rounded neck jts/all access heels, whatever.

2.1997- another possibility cause that's when the bubinga strip was ingrained into the S necks.

**hey, the dude in Oppressor sports a cool yellow S model, and so did frank gambale during his early days. i'd get one myself if any's still around...

Hi Greg and Ahmad d

Ahmad - I think you are right about the neck shape change, mine is a 94' and it has the thinner wizard neck on it for sure. It also has the all access neck joint, and I have a 93' catalogue which shows this type of heel clearly (it's a UK edition (in voice of Austin Powers 'I'm english don't you know!').

I do know that the neck shape changed again back to the super thin wizard neck's, in about 97'. I think they now call it the super wizard and can be found on most the Prestige S' series. Personally I would prefer the neck on mine if it was a little fatter, but thats personal taste, I am about to import a Prestige S1520FB, so it's gonna be intresting to find out what the feel of the neck is like.

For some reason this guitar is not available in the UK, but the prices over here are so high perhaps that's a good thing. For an S540Ltd you would be looking to pay somewhere in the region equivilant to $16 - 1700, which is like OUCH!

I was a little lucky, I bought mine (a very rare Emerald Green one, will it is in Europe, I think they were special order only in that colour) for a fair bit less when FCN lost the rights to import them into the UK! :-)

When I import the S1520 I will probably change the pickups in it (I like the Quantums, I think there great), but there is something about the DiMarzio Norton that I really like, it's just excellent for singing solo's!

Cya's later!

P.S. I noticed somebody in an earlier thread mention something about getting a web site devoted to the S series going, well this is something that I ahve been thinking about for a while, so watch this space!
