In 1985 I bought a Ibanez Axstar and I still play it. The guitar is in excellent condition with a "Ferrari" red body, and I really mean RED :-). The rest is black. It has two single coil pickups and one Humbucker. It is one off the finest guitars I've ever played. When I bought it I was told that the axstar series guitars had a synthetic body, which was something of first for Ibanez. Wether this is true I'm not sure since there is no information available from Ibanez. The only thing I know is that these guitars are very rare. Since I'm not interested in selling I don't know how much they are worth but it is always nice to know. Please let me know what your axstar looks like. Finally another Astar player..... Greetings Marcel |

Please look at the picture on the rock band Turn's web page (www.mbay.net/~lascott/turn.htm). The guitar pictured in the front is an Ibanez with two dual blade full size humbuckers, bolt-on neck, clear red finish on maple neck and body, black hardware and standard tremolo bar. This is a star shaped guitar, but not an Explorer or Destroyer. Could you give me info...Keith and Dan, California |

Keith: the only picture I see has the bottom half of the guitar cut off. So it's pretty hard to tell for sure. There are some pictures in Guitar Stories, Vol 1 that show star-shaped guitars in the DT (Destroyer II) series (circa 86-87). But everything is too small to read. On page 132 it mentions "a copy of the hybrid Dean ML V/Explorer design...the top of the line had blade-pole humbuckers and a sharp two-tone metallic finish. These guitars scream." Maybe someone else can help out with more info. |

I recently bought an Axstar second hand, its was in pretty bad repair, but im doing it up now, and repainting it red. Its different to Marcels, its twin humbuckers, and two knobs. The bridge is an Ibanez Hard Rocker A pic.

I found an axstar at a pawn shop recently. I thought it was really tight. One of the pickups is dead, and it has a few scratches, nothing that can't be fixed, its black, even on the neck which usually they are dark brown. I got it for $120. Any Idea what it's worth? I searched online, and this is the first discussion forum that has mentioned axstar guitars, and not a bass. Thanx. |

I am not that interested in originality, only that it plays well. I only wanted to know approx. what it's worth, just so that I know Im not ripped off, as for the catalog, what for? I know that Ibanez made them. But thanx for the reply. |

Angela, Perhaps you didn't notice. The name of this web site is "Ibanez Collectors World". "Collectors" are generally interested in original guitars, or restoring them to their original condition. Catalog specifications are used to determine originality and aid in identifying specific models. If all you want is a player, that's cool. Street value on Axstars (from the limited info I could find) appears to be $200-$300 depending on model and condition. Since they are uncommon items, price can vary dramatically. '80s "Metal" guitars are not in fashion at the moment. True market value is decided by what the buyer and seller can agree on. If you think you're getting "ripped off", don't buy it. Cheers Steve |

I know that it is an original axstar. SN.A850018. I am not an "Ibanez Collector" or any collector, I just figured that Ibanez Collectors would know more about Axstars. I buy what I like, and am not concerned with fashion, or what other people are into. I appreciate the info, I really liked this guitar, and my only concerns were that I wasn't purchasing this guitar for more than I could purchase it elsewhere, and that it was repairable. I agree that something is only worth what someone else will buy it for. |

Hi Orval and Steve, Thanks for your help, but the guitar is not anything like that featured above. The body mimics a telecaster body exactly, and the headstock has AXSTAR in large type and By Ibanez in small type. I don't have a photo as it is hanging in a shop at the moment. They are asking $330 US for it. I would like to bag it for around that amount in Aussie dollars. Cheers, Mark |

Hey all! I have been slowly putting together an Axstar site this school year. Check it out at http://homepages.dordt.edu/~nthnlvnd/axstar.html and let me know what you think. I probably won't get much time to work on it in the next two months, but I'd welcome your suggestions! |

HI, I've found and bought a headless Axstar, black, in a quite ruin status, Now I've rebuilt most of it and I use it as a practice and travel guitar. I must tell it sounds much better than others I have and with the active pickups it gets a powerful sound (besides of its "little" body) for r&r, hard or heavy which is the styles I normally play. Please if anyone has one of these I would like to ask some technical questions and also if anybody has the "official" wire diagrams it would be also very useful. thanks, shortly I will upload a picture!! bye contact me at pablo.garcia@mail.com |
