Hi everyone,

since many month I tried to get information about a very special Ibanez, I did not find in any catalog or the net:

Now I think that it´s a RoadstarII Pro540 from a limited series, but I need more information about the guitar itself and the price one can get for it.

Here are some confusing details:

It has graphics on it, looking like asian signs.

It has a triple-pickup in the bridge-position (looks like a triple but maybe is a humbucker and a single-coil close together in one mounting-ring). The pickups show the IBZ-USA-Logo. I have never seen another guitar with such a pickup (only an early iceman from ´78).

The neck is not finished but oiled. It is striped, made out of one - I think - maple center-stripe and two mahogany-stripes (?).

The guitar has no product-name or serial-number: not in the neck-pocket or under the plastic-covers. It only shows the Ibanez-Logo on the headstock.

Please give me hints about it.
Could it be a prototype or an one-of-a-kind-guitar?

Here is a picture of it:

RoadstarII Pro 540?

Thanks a lot,

Sven

That's like nothing I've ever seen. It appears to have some features taken from other models. The triple pickup was used in the 540P. The body shape is similar to an "S" (Saber).

There's so little info concerning Ibanez custom shop work (both US and Japan), that it's almost impossible to know where/when/who made it.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,

I first thougt that it was a Saber because of the body shape, but someone told me that this shape was used in the end 80th for the RoadstarII Pro 540 too. Sadly I have no more information.

If it is a custom shop work: could that be the reason for finding no serial number? Or are there custom shop models with serial numbers too?

Has anyone a good address for asking someone who knows something about such rare models?

Cheers, Sven

That looks alot like an Ibanez I aquired from the Bensalem factory back in 88, mine has no finish and the neck was a second....they did not even put the finishing carve out on the headstock and the logo never made it into the fibal production. The body shape and pick up configuation are the same as the one you have pictured except that mane is a humbucker and one single coil. The only body style that I could compare it to was the JS models but I don't think they are the same...I'll try to post a picture of it...this thing has been through the world with me, and it was even stolen back in '92 but I got it back a year later....Peace
