The Maxon OD 808 Export reissue (the one available here in the US) has the 4558D op-amp as well as the same Diode. The circuitry is exactly the same. I bought one and A-B'd it with an original 808. I think they sound the same. It sounds pretty damn good for $150.00. I don't work for Maxon. I just like Ibanez stuff a lot. |

Hi folks! Some thoughts: I recently bought a Maxon OD808 for 108$ (yes, it was a sale!)in Finland. I think it's great! Compared it to my TS-9 RI(808-mod.), and I think they are very much alike provided that Maxon is a bit brighter in tone. (Thus less mid-rangey.) It has the right JRC-4558 chip. I think TS-9 RI was worth while modifying. Sound got better. They both are great sounding pedals, especially with single-coils. The only thing is that Maxon is vastly over priced at least in Finland (srp. 170$), which ruined it's sales in here. So I think Maxon will be history here soon. (But then, TS-9 RI is here equally priced!!) Esa |
