I recently bought a Ts-9. I bought it from a guy
who did not know whether it was new or reissue. It is in good shape and sounds good but how can I be sure?
any Information is appreciated.

you can not realy tell a reissue from a non reissue if it is in realy good shape it probaly is a reissue. they are both the same and they will both sound the same. |

The reissue TS-9s have a silver bottom sticker with the "CE" designation and is multilingual (English, German, Spanish and Japanese). The original has a black bottom and is in larger print with just English and Japanese, and no "CE" designation. |

Does the Ibanez PUE5 Tube have the same "guts" as the TS9? Also,UE300 same as TS808? |

The original (or 808) should have the JRC-4558 chip inside. See this site for lots of details:

I can't verify this, but I've heard that the original has green caps inside, while the reissue has yellow. |

my 808 has Texas instrument 4558's the electrolytic cap(acitor)s are blue and there is one green ceramic cap.
All Ic's are date coded but on these small packges the date code is on the bottom next to the circuit board. The date code will look like week number year wwyy in 4 digits - so 2680 is last week of june 1980.
You can definitely date the pedals using this but you have to desolder one of the IC's first.
I have also a TS9 but the 808 is better into my amp.
Hope this clears some myths. |

Here is one of the best ways to figure out if your TS9 is new, old, reissue, whatever. Mike White (bassmanmike) did this over a year ago; and since then I've purchased the pedal that he mentions is for sale.

Don't forget about Jacques (www.ts808.com) - he started to keep track of serial numbers to determine the year of production, and the trend of which op-amp & caps were used at what point in time. Another great resource for the rest of us.
I have two TS808's - an original (Mike's, with the TI op-amp), and a 1996 reissue. They sound marginally different. My ears tell me that each version of the Tube Screamer sounds different.
