To everyone out there: I recently purchased an old tube screamer and have been trying to find a straight answer from someone about how to interpret the serial number (i.e. year identifier, etc.). Can anyone give me some consistent information on this subject? It seems that everyone I've talked to has a different opinion. Thanks.....Punchy |

Mostly, you can roughly date the effect based on the Model Numer. If it's a TS9, you can tell if its orignal or a reissue by looking at the bottom. If it has a CE (consumer electronics) on the bottom, it's a reissue. If not, it's original. Other than that, what really determines the value of a TS9 is the OpAmp, not the year. Look for JRC4558D or a TI RC4558P. Those are the valuable ones. A TS808 is valuable regardles of OpAmp. All other TubeScreamers (besides TS808's and TS9's) seem to have depreciated in value. When in doubt, refer to ebay. The easiest price guide on the planet ;) |
