'81 AS100?? Anyone know the specifics...

I am thinking about buying an '81 AS100 sight unseen over the web. Can I assume the AS100 is like the entry level AS80 model of today? (or the AS120 w/o the inlays and the gold hardware) Any opinions on which might be better: an '81 or a new one? The body were Birch as compared to the maple body AS100's made during 1980 and later. The 1977 -79 AS100's have Super 80 pickups, you may want to replace the super 80's with Ibanez super 70 pickups. Now, their is nothing wrong with getting a 1981 or later AS100 they are very nice guitars. The AS100's were made in Japan and the quality was very good. I'm not to sure about the quality of the AS80 & AS120 that are not made in Japan. I have owned an AS80 and a couple of 1981/82 AS100s all made in Japan and I have tried some of the newer AS120's, I prefer the early 1980 -86 models that are made in Japan as compared to the newer models. As far as I remember, the difference btw. the AS 50 and th AS 100 was the bodysize. The AS 100 is a little bigger.
