Hey gang, just thought I see whats happening with those who own a Artcore custom or two. Are you experiencing colour changes yet ? Since ya O'l Cappy bought his first Artcore Custom..AF105NT in Feb 2005 which was out of the first batch made, it was a very pale colour. Now in just 2 years, check out how it looks ! Is anyone else having this happening? If this is where they are at now, imagine what they should be like in say 5 years time. My AS103NT Artcore Custom was also very pale as well. It was from the first shipment to Australia in May 2006, this one is following along the same way as well. Here's what it looks like at 10 months old today. So bring it on, who else is seeing these changes? Keep On Rockin' Captain Ibanez |

My AF105F was built in 2005, bought it in june 2006. I didn't notice any change in the colour. I'll be aware of that from now, and check it regularly. On your photos, the colour seems to stay pale on some parts of the guitar : is it for real, or just an effect of light reflections ? |

Captain, Do you play your beauties? How do you like them (compared to other Ibanez (semi)hollows)? I guess it is normal that blonde guitars get a bit darker. It depends on the wood, finishing and circumtances. Light is probably the main factor. How the lacquer reacts to it and how much light (which wavelengths) passes it. How does flamed maple age? Other circumtances, humidity, temperature, air pollution etc make a comlicated combination. My AS103SM-NT is so young that I can't say anything of its changes. Juha |

I have one of those baby green AF75's and that has some serious fading on a few places, not on the entire guitar. I'll try to capture it in pics. P@ul |

I told you they would age, and become like the 2355m! If you wait long enough they will develop a nice vintage look. Ginger |

Emzc: No trick photography. It's the real deal.On the back of the AF105, there are a couple of lighter patches which I hope will catch up to the rest one day. Juha: Yes I do play them but not everyday.I used to take my AF105 with me around Australia doing my guitar clinics as the AF105 was in short supply when they were first released due to overwellming orders from the world market. In Australia we only received 12 of these in the begining of 2005, which I had already placed a pre order for. These days since retiring, these hang on my lounge room wall in a nice cool spot and not near direct sunlight, which I might add, they have only been on the wall hangers since October last year, prior to that they lived in their cases. I find the necks on these 2 models superb, really comfy to play. I use D'addario Chromies 12 gauge on the AF105 and D'addario 10-46 on the AS103.To me personally, I find them right up there with any of the top end semi's. Paul, look forward to the pictures. I had a AFS75T in the classic sea foam green colour at Australis that sat around for sometime and it to was getting some interesting colour changing under the finish. Ginger, I agree, just haven't had to wait 30years...hehe |

First, Photos taken on 22 august 2006 With flash without flash Then, Photos taken today With flash Without flash I can't find any significant difference, and the colour is the same on the whole body. But as it was build in 2005, maybe it has darkened before I bought it in june 2006. I don't know exactly how long it stayed exposed in the guitarshop, but I guess at least three months. |

Hmmm...I'd bet it's the polyurethane coating that is changing to a slightly darker patina (sweet looking, by the way!). Factor in Cappy's guitars are stored out of the case which logically would accelerate the 'aging' process of the poly. Also, how is the humidity at your home? |

After a lot of testing and tweaking with my camera, I finally get a picture that matches the real colour. And in fact the guitar seems darker than on the official Ibanez photos. This guitar is always in its case when I don't play. Humidity or dryness is not an issue where I live.

Hm, do these finishing problems have something to do with the amount of hollow Artcores that are for sale, and prices in US? There was a new AF105 on eBay at BIN price $574. It would be cheaper, shipping and VAT added, than AF105's list and even street price is here in Europe. Juha |

The less faded patches are much better visible in real life. I'll try to shoot some pics in direct sunlight. If that ever returns here... The overall guitar has faded a lot. I'll remove the bridge for the next photoshoot. It is a very nice guitar though. Bought it for my daughter but she now plays my 2337dx and I pick up the Artcore every now and then.... |

Thanks Cappy for that info. As I understand the serial number scheme, it would have been the 2,323 guitar, of any model, produced that month. All you guys are turning me into an addict. |
