Welcome Jem,

Ibanez never made a guitar. Hoshino ordered and sold guitars with the Ibanez brand on it. That's all.
The PM20 was Korean made and was the cheapest PM.
They were in production for only a short period, due to problems with the manufacturer.
The PM100 and PM120 cost twice as much.

Ginger:

Why do you say that there were problems with the manufacturer of the PM20? What do you know about the relationship?

What I know is that Hoshino took over Serlui, who distributed Ibanez and Vantage (by Samick) in the early 90's. While Ibanez customers were NOT satisfied about the quality of the Ibanez products made in the Samick factory, the quality/price ratio of the Vantage product was so strong that they managed to become the NUMBER ONE brand in country guitars in Holland. So the factory who made their guitars become a major competitor selling through the same distribution channel.

Hoshino kicked Samick out, took over Serlui and Serlui kicked Vantage out, which is now a dead brand in Holland. You get very low prices for them nowadays.

Mea culpa ,

I just saw the PM20 was NOT made by Samick, but by Cort. The relationship has always been good, because they made excellent quality for the money. But there was another problem. They were so good that it became difficult to sell the PM100 ($1399.99 vs $2899.99).

For a while I thought the short period Jem was referring at was the same period in which Samick messed up the Artstar production with non potted pups. But Cort made them three years long (1997-1999).

So, the reason for discontinuing the model was price policy. If you wanted the play a guitar with Pat's name on it, you had to pay top dollar from 2000 on.
