I began playing in 1973 on a guitar with what appears to have a name called, "Ideal" written in raised metallic script on the head stock. It was a blue, semi-hollowbody with a rosewood fingerboad. It has what appears to be two single coil pickups that were out of this world in their day. Made in Japan is on the heel of the neck. Why I am on this page is that the headstock looks alot like the Ibanez headstock. I can't find a history of Ibanez. The guitar played like a dream and had a great sound. I found it at my parent's house. I'd like to rewire it and restore it for old times sake. |

Does it have Ibanez on the head stock or Ideal? I will take a picture tonight. I might go to the the Great American Guitar Show in Philadelphia this weekend so I might just be able to get them developed digitally within a few weeks. I'll keep ya posted. Wait until you see the color on this baby. |

I agree it looks very cute. It's a shame some numpty has messed with it. If it's had a flat top bridge fitted I guess it will look pretty unsightly, even if you try and restore it. I mean what were they thinking! |

I have come across quite a number of these and they are not that rare. However, most I have seen are not in any collectible condition and most have their bridge missing, heavy checking of the finish and loose parts. Another model comes with the entire fretboard covered in abalone colored mother of toilet seat. The sound from this guitar is pretty thin but you will be very surprised how much dealers will be asking for such a model especially the one with the abalone fretboard because they think its a very rare and expensive model. They are actually very nice to look at and an interesting thing is if there is a label inside there will be a mention of the date 1908, which is the same date when Ibanez started as stted in Michael Wright's book. Rgds, Meranti. |

It leans more towards a piece of art, and I suppose its worth what somebody wants to pay for it. ---- As far as some dealers/shops (not all) are concerned, I would put them on par with lawyers, estate agents, and Dick Turpin. I could see that guitar hanging on the lounge wall quite nicely.---I tried to get some info on it from a friend who has a rare National collection, he knew of type, but nothing specific. I must say I could be tempted Paddy. |
