Author Message   Artfield Username: Artfield Registered: 4-2001 Posted on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 - 11:23 am:    Dear Members, It took a while but it came out very nice, sound,play and cosmetic wise, although the last word could also mean "taste " and some of our well respected members overhere share a different opinion on that issue , which i respect...bottom line i'm not into "blonde" forgive me for that.....but i never will butcher our Holy Grail (ibanez)..for now no more mods. Specs: AM66 1985. Color: Purple. Pick-ups: Ultra-Sonic Ref-5 (sweet warm clean sound) Bridge: Ibanez Gold Shortstop Switching: 5-way rotary Machineheads: Gotoh gold/pearl. Luthier: Patrick Koopman http://www.pkguitars.nl/ The Netherlands. Condition of the guitar wasn't that good, also the previous owner had stripped the neck in a very ugly way. First time I saw it, it was 1995 (that good old guilders), then it went down to 1495 because nobody wanted it (it lacked the F or G brand). The original price of the guitar had been 3995. It had zebra Seymour Duncan humbuckers in the bridge and the neck and a single coild in the middle and it was LOUD. Pat is a very kind and modest person, and very precise in his work. His handbuilt strat was the best in the test in MUSIC MAKER. He beat VAN DE HAAR, PEER DELLEN and D. DIJKMAN you name all top strat luthiers in the Netherlands. And then I read things today like "I'm not the only luthier in Holland. I do have many collegues who are building magnificent guitars. So it's difficult for me to say why you should come to me. I don't like to toot my own horn, so to speak. However, I will say that I won't stop until the desired results are there - no matter what it takes, until my customers are happy. That's my promise." No arrogance, nothing, just the same old Pat I met years ago in Groesbeek. (Pat is from Weurt like my great-granddad). He was doing a demo on how to build a PRS model then, and he was not that enthusiastic about the old model I talked about with him. It's like he's never satisfied with the quality he reached. You have to say "Stop, it's good enough now!" So, I was talking about a VERY NICE guitar he built, and he was thinking on a level that was still so much higher, that he almost forgot he ever built the old ones. As if he was ashamed that he ever built them. I don't see these old models on his website. They were like a mix of Pensa Suhr and Ibanez RG, if I remember it well one piece body and neck. I think the problem is: people want a model which is already popular, only better. So that's what he's making now. Just a matter of demand. But he can make good original designs too. Notice the small font he uses: "Patrick was guitartech for Steve Vai for the Aching Hunger shows in 2004 and 2005" Others would put this in FAT CAPS Really a helluva guy! His handmade instruments are really outstanding !! have alook of this wonderful AM205 copy he did for a ex-student of me. IT SAYS ALL.
