OK, I know most of you say don't do it, but I am going to switch from my Super 58s to Fralin P 92s (split singles) or Phat Cats. Any opinions on what might work best for me? I play mostly open chords clean to barely overdriven. I lead worship so I'm strumming and picking but never schredding. I like to leave me volume knob alone on my guitar (I'm getting used to playing electric...so the easier the better) and the HBs just get a little too muddy for me. Also...would I get enough for my Super 58s to warrant selling them (75-100 bucks0 or should I just keep them? (I guess I might could find someone to trade, huh?) Thanks in advance. |

Keep the Super 58s if you are not desperate for money, you may want to change back one day - or end up selling the AS80 to someone who prefers them. |

I don't think it's the pickups that sound muddy. I think it's the tone pots and capacitors. If you sell the second hand Super 58's (Korean), you will get less than the price of NEW pickups, and your original pickups will be gone. Why don't you change the tone pots and the capacitors? It will cost you perhaps $10-20 max, unless you buy '59 Bumblebees. Did you read the thread about changing the pots and caps? If you attach about 1,2 meter of dental floss to each pot, you can safely pull the harness through the upper f-hole and replace the pots and caps one by one and attach the lash of the floss to the new pot before you start replacing the next pot. When you're ready you pull the pots back in place. BTW, what strings are you using? And are they fresh? Ginger |

I had a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat P90 in the neck position of my AS80 for awhile. Sounded great, crisper than the Super 58's (Korean). |

Try lowering the pickups away from the strings and see if that doesn't clean up your tone. |
