Keep your Ibanez hollow-bodies

Author Message   Sabeking Username: Sabeking Registered: 6-2006 Posted on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 - 9:16 am:    Folks, I know we all like/love our Ibanez guitars, so the topic of this post is nothing anybody should take seriously, however, I am in Memphis and went by the Gibson factory (only went in the store) and really found out why we all love our Ibanez guitars. Put aside the fact of the enormous price, the finish quality is not that great. Anybody else have thoughts? For one thing, if you find a 50 year old axe that still looks, plays & sounds good...you know it was made right because it has stood the test of time. Even if it's just an old Kay, or a Harmony...it was solidly built of good quality materials, and it's all done "seasoning". With new guitars, you just never know what you're going to have down the road. Supposedly if you fork out serious green for a name like Gibson, Martin, Guild etc. you will get a superior quality instrument, but that's just a myth IMO. We all know that a person can play 1/2 dozen of the exact same model, high end guitars...and like some of them & not like others. I've run across Gibsons that were dogs many times. I have never liked Martins because of their necks, and they're overpriced. I don't care what it says on the headstock anymore. Ibanez has made guitars as good as any I've ever come across, and I own several Ibanez acoustics now...because they're great players regardless of the price. I don't own any Ibanez hollow body electrics, but I do have several Univox models...a related brand. They are seriously undervalued IMO, and I am actively adding more choice examples to my collection whenever I get the opportunity. They can still be found for ~$200-300. Of course if I get a shot at an Ibanez at a price I can afford, I will grab it.   Sabeking Username: Sabeking Registered: 6-2006 Posted on Friday, August 03, 2007 - 5:35 pm:    Ok, I just went by the Gibson store in Nashville and found the same think as far as quality of workmanship. Interesting enough, they had a Le Grande in Nashville and what a disappointment in the finish quality. The binding along the frets were just not clean in finish (it looked as if someone had done a touch-up). Nonetheless, the finish quality on my FA510 was (what I think) superior to the Le Grande. I would love to want to buy a Gibson, however, I can't justify the price for the finish quality. If anyone has played a Hamer US model, will see what true American made quality can be like... Which guitars did you try? The Improv, an Artist, Newport, Monaco or...? The quality of the finish was outstanding. The neck, for me, was perfect. The sound, with the P90, well, Fat! Anybody looking to get a US made guitar, take a look at Hamer... Duncan Custom & Custom Custom That Monaco III looks like an interesting rockabilly axe (3 S. Duncan P-90's and a Bigsby vibrato). They are all so beautiful, that I don't know what to choose. Perhaps an Artist Korina... or, or, or... He kept the original, however, he wanted a different sound. He also some anniversary Hamer that is just stunning. I am seriously thinking about selling one of my Ibanez to get a Hamer... Stacey
