Author Message   Gemberbier Username: Gemberbier Registered: 5-2006 Posted on Friday, August 17, 2007 - 10:29 am:    The idea for this thread started with a wrongly presented 2630 on eBay: Ebay Item #140146602555 When I saw this 2630 wrongly presented as a 2643 on eBay I decided NOT to write about it in order to test a few theses I had in my mind: These 1: If you present a 2630 totally wrong (as in this case as a 2643) but with good pictures, you will probably see less competition for this guitar. These 2: If you present a 2630 with correct data, but with bad pictures, it will be more difficult to sell than with good pictures. These 3: If you present a 2630 with correct data AND good pictures you will get quite a lot of aspirant buyers. These 4: If you present a 2630 with correct data AND good pictures AND you mention the AS200 in the title, then you will get the MAXIMUM competion and the MAXIMUM PRICE. We had some nice examples over the last weeks, like this one: Ebay Item #220123959081 and this one: Ebay Item #290148636454 Will the keywords AS200 daddy JSM100 granddaddy trigger a massive competion or will the number of bidders stay about the same (minus 1 or 2 because the first two have already been sold)? BTW: I noticed that all sellers removed or lost their pickguards, probably for a reason that we all know: GAS with the risk of hardware corrosion! Most buyers recognize the 'Scofield' connection with the vaunted AS200, but no major pro-players are identified with the incredible 2630. (Paul Gilbert's recent conversion being the sole exception) So sellers stick 'Scofield/JSM100/Grandaddy/Lawsuit/Gibson/335,etc. in their Ebay ads in an effort to increase traffic. In the end, so much depends on timing of Ebay ads. I love 2630's and hope their collectability continues to grow and get the attention they deserve in the vintage guitar market.   Gemberbier Username: Gemberbier Registered: 5-2006 Posted on Friday, August 17, 2007 - 5:30 pm:    Michael, no problem. The fact that the number 2630 was not in the title made it harder to find. Despite that, it had 15 bidders. This means that at least 15 2630-fans are hunting on visual, thus not searching on the strings "Ibanez" and "2630". I found her on visual too, but I didn't bid. I believe it was at $849-899.- or something when I first saw it. I think the old models have the disadvantage of the four digit model numbers. You have to be an Ibanez vintage expert to do recognize them. A search for AS-something or AM-something is simpler. I have other priorities now, but when I am in a position to bid, I think this is what I have been saving that NOS Gibraltar bridge and tailpiece/cloud for all these years... to restore one of these babies with corroded hardware. Ginger   Jazzzbo Username: Jazzzbo Registered: 9-2005 Posted on Friday, August 17, 2007 - 8:28 pm:    Ginger , i had a 2630 and sold it a few months ago on the bay, it was a nice axe, not mint but very nice, since then ive moved on to a thin line hollow body and an ar50 i really dont miss my 2355 all the much, the 2450 is indeed a player for my style, the 2630 is alittle on the big side, not a big deal one day ill get another semi acoustic and an ar 300. cheers, jazzzz
