I was just getting ready to post this auction when I saw you already did Chuck. I wonder who and what the 1st offer is!

I wrote the guy a quick note, congratulating him on the size of his huevos and then letting him know I thought the guitar was worth about $1,500, give or take. I'm not sure of his strategy. Certainly, putting a $37K price tag on it will get him attention, but will it scare people away, or possibly encourage someone to bid north of $2K for it?

He says he'd take $35,000.00. What a deal! :-) I wonder if he has the original cloud tail? (Should be a 1 piece.)

What would the insertion fee be on a $35,000 auction?

this auction goes to the guinness book of records "most overrated ibanez guitar ever" section.

The Buy-It-Now for $1,000 is, I think, $10, but it's a sliding scale. I bet it's costing him north of $50 and maybe more to ask for that much.

This guitar had been posted numerous times before with a BIN of $1,800. It was listed as having a "Bagsley" and had non-original pups - anyone remember??

Discussed briefly here:
http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/discus/messages/16 /2389.html

It finally sold earlier this year. I suspect the seller is attempting to flip it for a profit or just has a good sense of humor.

That is a 35000 difference. I think it's just a attention grabber for the auction.

i absolutely agree. but still, someone coughed up 2k for a 400.00 guitar. there are those with more money than smarts. and as for an attention getter. well it worked. look at us.

I've been witnessing a lot of overpriced auctions and flipping lately. Think it's due to an underabundance of old Ibanez guitars on the 'Bay right now.

So, for fees, he's just paying $4.80 insertion (anything over $500 starting price) and 50 cents for Buy-It-Now. If he had a reserve, which he doesn't, it would cost him 1% of the reserve price, up to $50 (which means a reserve of $5K or more). So he's listing this pretty cheap. Maybe it's the future of eBay promotional strategy? Reserve fees, by the way, are refundable if the reserve is met.

what we'd call a "complete chancer" back in Glasgow..but then again if someone is dumb (or rich enough) to pay 2000 US + for it........At least it's a pretty guitar...

He's getting exactly what he wants --lots of PRESS!

Just wants attention to his auction, he will weigh the offers as it goes..I actually see this "promotion" strategy more often than you think. Don't take the starting price so serious, cuz I'm sure he isn't.
