A simple question: When did production of Ibanez Artstars cease and Artcores begin? |

Never mind. I answered my own question by downloading a few catalogs from about 10 years ago. I wanted to know if Artstars were being made in 1997-98, or if the switch had been made to Artcores by then. The answer: Still Artstars. Nice Artstars, too. -Chuck |

Not so simple answer: that depends on the type of the Artstar. They were NOT discontinued simultaneously. I think you're mainly focussed on Korean AS types, right (because Artstars production started in the Terada factory in Japan from 1987). Japan: The AS200 was in the Artstar series from 1987-until 2001 (the year in which the JSM100 with the jack output on the side was introduced) I have seen AS200 models offered in the Musik Produktiv catalogue of 2002, but they were probably NOS, I don't know the serial numbers). The Artstar AS100 was in production for a very short time (I believe 1989 only). The Artstar AS180 was in production for only a year or three (1997, '98 and '99) The Koreans made 3 model numbers of the AS type as far as I know (and I'm writing without checking now): AS50 (bolt-on) very short-lived, not in the catalogues, but it was somewhere around the millennium, and they were mostly amber. AS80 (set neck) discontinued in 2001 AS120 (set neck) discontinued in 2003. The first Artcore catalogue appeared separately in 2002. There were only Chinese budget models in it. Then, in 2003, when the AS120 was discontinued, they introduced the AS193 UNITED, a Chinese body with a Japanese neck. It was presented in the green Artcore catalogue. As to Artstar AS and Artcore AS models, I think that's about it. There were of course other body shapes available, but I'm doing my best to be brief. Ginger |
