Ebay Item #140154530267 I just won this auction. It's a very cool guitar. The guy swapped out the original pickups, true, but he put in "GFS Retrotron" pickups (http://store.guitarfetish.com/gomeal2ritov.html) and they look cool. I hope they sound as good as he describes. If not, I'll get a pair of Super 58's. I really can't wait for this guitar to arrive. When it does, I'll post more pictures. -Chuck |

nice score!! I was watching that to see what it would fetch. I emailed the seller to ask if he had the original pups but got no reply. I know you'll enjoy this axe. Mine is nice to play and look at. |

Should we establish Proud AS103 Owners Club with divisions for NT, SM, BM, AMB and other possible future finishes? Juha |

Freak, I corresponded with the guy. He had already sold off the original 58's. Juha, sounds like a great idea! -Chucke |

Great deal on a very cool semi-hollow. I'm still amazed at how nice these AS103's are for the money. Let us know how you like it after it arrives. |

I won an auction, AS103NT, my bid was 390 EUR, reserve 450 EUR. So, my AS103 collection is still short of NT, BM and AMB. I have an SM. Juha |

Another went earlier this week on US eBay for just $440. I think timing is everything. I'm not mad though, and it should arrive by Wednesday or Thursday of this week. I can't wait to put my hands on it. -Chuck |

Chuck, No doubt (in my mind) that you got a great deal. It is weird how things sometimes slip away at a low price on the bay. I happened to luck out last week but I am usually the one who is left scratching his head thinking, why didn't I bid on that? As long as the axe you got was in good shape, plays and sounds like what you were hoping, then there should be no regrets. Anxious to hear your comments btw. The retrotron pickups sound interesting. I have a spare set of Super 58's that I took out of my AG195 (Artcore United) if you're not happy with the retrotrons but they are silver, not gold. Best regards, Darryl |

She arrived today. I thought my wife would go ballistic (you know, one guitar too many) but it was so purty she just commented how nice it looks. I adjusted the pickups a bit (the previous owner had them pretty low) and dug out my old Boss SuperOverdrive SD-1 pedal and fired her up. It sounds fantastic, and plays really well. I love the neck. Of course, it is beautiful, as you will see from the pictures below. I kind of wish it had its original Super 58's, and I may still ultimately install some. Also, the one thing negative about the guitar is that the pickup switch appears to be a hack job, meaning the wires were cut and spliced. I think in a couple of the pictures you can see the wrapped electrical tape. Oh well. As I said, she sounds great and I'm happy. -Chuck |

Chuck, Gorgeous guitar. Congratulations. Glad you're happy with your new axe. Interesting tailpiece...I've never noticed that one before. Very nice. I agree with you on the necks on the Artcore Customs...they feel great and play great. |

Oh, I am afraid I'll have to pay the 430 EUR which the guy is asking now for his AS103NT which was auctioned before. They are such beauties. And the original Custom 58s are not bad. It will be more difficult to get a BM and an AMB. Seems the NT with the extra curve (see AS103NT thread) i had is an exception and quality is good. I suspect(ed) it had suffered some kind of water or damp damage because its strings got rusty in an unnatural way. Juha |

Jazz, the serial number starts S06... so I think that means Samick factory (China) 2006, which sounds about right. -Chuck |

That's the first 103 I've seen with retrotrons... cool stuff. While I can't claim to be part of the AS103 club, I can claim some sort of connection to this thread in that my AS73 has the liverpool alnico 5 retrotrons in 'er. A friend of mine has a 103 and it is a fine instrument. Not the hugest fan of the lightness of the natural flame myself, but that's everyman's choice. |

The retrotrons have a nice sound to them. I'm still debating whether or not to replace them with 58's. I'm a rock player, not Jazz, so the super clean sound is a nice-to-have, and really, once you throw an SD-1 box into the mix, it's all crunch and sustain no matter what the pickups are. -Chuck |
