i've contacted several shops in japan trying to order one of those guitars

they look nice

but it's gonna be around 1500 without being able to play one

i'm going to have to think about it long and hard before i take that plunge

Gotta love those computer-controlled milling machines. It makes me think that there is a baseline to quality these days, no matter where an axe is produced. They all start with the same, exactly routed pieces. I can see that, with experience, an Indonesian assembler can glue together the pieces just as well as the Japanese craftsman.

Now, I understand that more goes into quality than just routing: choice of woods, foremost, but also the attention to detail on final finishing, fret mounting, and quality of hardware and electronics. Still, as a new owner of an AS103NT "Custom" from China, I'm looking forward to seeing and feeling some quality.
