The value of the upgrade parts is almost as high as the value of the original guitar. That the top is laminated doesn't really matter.
Point is: the guy has a guitar with a $1000.- listprice. He treats it very good, very gentle, but even then it is a second hand recent guitar, so the value is about 2/3 of the list price, that's about $670.-
Then the case for a full size jazz box: about $90.- makes $760.-

If there's someone who really wants those parts, but not the guitar, he could better sell them separately.

It's a bit complicated this way. But if the guitar is exactly like you want it...

It's indeed remarkable that some master builders create some sort of myth about their work and charge much more per hour than others. For $500.- I would gladly give it a try with a Dremel.
But I think Bill Moll is anticipating on ebony getting on the CITES list. If I had old stock ebony, I wouldn't exactly give it away to some bloke with cheap Korean jazz box.
Because when these parts are on one of his custom built guitars, the price of that instruments goes up with that amount of money.
Anyway, $70.- is cheap. A Benedetto tailpiece costs $100.25 at Stewmac's. They always fit.
The pickguard for two humbuckers must be custom made. That's what makes it expensive. And that's probably the reason that he wants to sell the guitar as is.
Not so easy to sell, IMO.
It remained unsold this time.
