Okay, this post is definitely not for the hardcore, straight-ahead, staunch Ibanez collector. Here is the before and after of my AM70 purchased a few years ago. When I bought it, it was cosmetically an excellent specimen of a 1987 AM70; fully intact with original equipment. The only problem (major) was the fret work. Some of the frets were pulling up (ever so slightly) and there was terrible fret buzz at the higher frets. Much of this was due to a drastic change in humidity - from humid North Carolina to relatively dry Northern California. I gave this guitar a major overhaul to meet my own selfish needs. Seymour Duncan 59 pickups, Grover tuners with ebony buttons, replaced the one piece bridge and added a Benedetto tailpiece. Still the frets had problems and I did not like the design of the Benedetto tailpiece. I sent the guitar to Steve Holst who leveled the fretboard, installed new frets and replaced the Benedetto tailpiece with one of his own. Here is the finished product. I should have it next week...I can't wait. I know this is like dragging your fingernails across the chalkboard for you faithful Ibanez collectors...all I can say is, I think this is going to be one of my favorite guitars.

Hey, I don't collect guitars, I play them. Whatever mod is needed, is fair game, in my book. |
