It hope the purchaser appreciates that I let it go... I had an AM50 and loved it. I sold it when I got my AM255. I would have bought this one if I wasn't feeling guilty about owning too many guitars. I'm not sure one can compare the AM50 vs. 70's guitars. The AM50 is a small-bodied semi-hollow and this line didn't exist in the 70's. Although not as cosmetically pleasing to some, it is the same guitar as the AM50 with paint and a pick guard. The one I recently picked up for considerably less than this AM50's buy it now price is an outstanding instrument. They made them only in 1983, according to Funkle's AM site. It was obviously not a success. We like to see some nice wood grain, don't we? Your AM-100 must be quite rare compared to the AM-50, which according to Funkle's AM site would have been discontinued in 1984. I have reason to believe that's not true. (the production of the AM-50 was transferred to Yoojin under the ARTSTAR flag in 1987: why would you transfer the production of a discontinued model?) Since the (Yoojin) Artstar AM-50 should be added to the model table of Sven's site, there's a challenge to find out if there are any Artist AM-50 guitars in the wild with an 85 or 86 serial number, instead of assuming that everything in a book (I think the Untold Story might have played a role here) is indeed true. Like Jim Donahue said, he didn't have the time and opportunity to proofread the book back then and there are lots of mistakes still to be corrected, and this could be one of them) is true. Anyway, your Artist AM-100 is a rare model. And with that pickguard it's less vulnerable than the AM-50, which makes me think of that auction about a year ago of a black Ibanez pickguard for the AM-50 in official Ibanez wrapping. I didn't figure out then if it was especially made accessory for the AM-50, or that it was actually an AM-205 pickguard. Ginger   Pitchpocket Username: Pitchpocket Registered: 12-2005 Posted on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 - 1:33 pm:    Most of my playing anymore consists of internet mixes in collaboration with players who have moved to different parts of the country, so I'm more interested in the sound and playability of a guitar rather than the color. That said, I find nothing unsavory about the black metallic finish as I (and others) have black Les Pauls and other guitars that are finished with paint rather than a clear coat. The AM100 may not have been a commercial success for Ibanez, but it has to be because of the paint rather than the guitar itself. Once the sound hits the WAV file, you can't tell if its wood grain or painted.
